This is a study companion for Cambridge IELTS 14, Test 1, Listening. Use it with your own copy of the book and its audio: do the test first, then use this page to see what each section was about, learn the vocabulary, and understand every answer and what you should have listened for.

Golden rule of Listening: the recording plays only once and the answers come in order. Before each section, read the questions and predict the type of word needed (name, number, place). Watch for distractors — the speaker often mentions a wrong option first.

Section 1: Crime Report Form
Situation: a woman reports a theft to the police, who complete a crime report form with her personal details and the details of the theft. Question type: form completion (Q1–10), ONE WORD AND/OR A NUMBER. পরিস্থিতি: এক নারী পুলিশের কাছে চুরির অভিযোগ করেন; পুলিশ ফর্ম পূরণ করে। ফর্ম পূরণ, একটি শব্দ ও/অথবা সংখ্যা।

Section 2: Company Policy for Apprentices
Situation: a manager gives new apprentices a talk about the company and its rules. Question types: "choose TWO letters" (Q11–12, Q13–14) and matching each policy area to whether it is encouraged / restricted / against the rules (Q15–20). পরিস্থিতি: ম্যানেজার নতুন শিক্ষানবিশদের কোম্পানি ও নিয়ম নিয়ে বক্তৃতা দেন। ধরন: "দুই অক্ষর" ও নীতি-মিলকরণ (উৎসাহিত/সীমাবদ্ধ/নিষিদ্ধ)।
