Section 1: College Orientation
Situation: a new student is shown around and told key facts — where to gather (the Main Hall), staff to see (the Director of Studies, the Student Advisor), a time (11 o'clock), a placement/English test, and rooms identified by abbreviations (L = Library, MH = Main Hall, CL = Computer Laboratory, SR = Staff Room, SCR = Student Common Room). Situation: a talk about services for students — overseas tuition fees, the domestic area, essay deadlines, social life, outings/trips, a contact name to spell (KOUACHI), a phone number (3269940), opening hours (ten to four), making an appointment, and a waiting list. Section 3: Staff Selection (a Discussion)
Situation: students discuss the history and methods of selecting staff — choices among options (Q21–24), the selection procedure, early examples from the ancient Chinese and the military, a proportion (about two thirds), the role of experts, and describing one selection technique. Section 4: A Specialist Lecture
Situation: a single-speaker lecture where you complete notes as the talk moves through its points — a "secondary" stage, a figure (14), how features overlap, the underside or bottom, working on paper (two dimensions) versus a three-dimensional (3-D) model, and three colours (white, grey and brown). It ends with a few multiple-choice questions.
