Section 1: A Homestay Application
Situation: a Japanese student (surname Yuichini) fills in a homestay application by phone — giving her first name, passport number, length of stay, the course she is on, family preferences (no young children, no objection to pets), plus what she likes to eat, her sport, transport preference and when she will find out her address. Section 2: A Tour of a Park/Estate
Situation: a monologue guiding visitors around a park or estate — features and facilities such as a car park, a rose garden, a café, cycling, a biology lesson and a viewing shelter, with some multiple-choice details. Section 4: Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and Taste
Situation: a lecture about MSG and the sense of taste — what MSG contains, the protein-rich foods where glutamate occurs, Kikunae Ikeda's 1908 discovery, and how our five tastes (including the "new" fifth taste) help us judge food (sweetness, bitterness for toxins, sourness for spoiled food, saltiness for minerals).
