Why This Matters (কেন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ)

Tense errors are one of the most common Grammar deductions across PTE's spoken and written items. Because Retell Lecture and Summarize Spoken Text ask you to report what a speaker said, and Summarize Written Text/Write Essay mix narration with argument, it is very easy to drift between tenses mid-answer without noticing — something the scoring engine catches even when a human listener would not.

Retell Lecture ও Summarize Spoken Text-এ বক্তার কথা রিপোর্ট করতে হয়, আর Summarize Written Text/Write Essay-তে বর্ণনা ও যুক্তি মিশে থাকে — ফলে বাক্যের মাঝপথে কাল বদলে যাওয়া সহজেই ঘটে, যা স্কোরিং ইঞ্জিন ধরে ফেলে।

Staying in One Tense Frame (একই কালে থাকা)

Pick a tense frame for your whole answer and hold it, even when the source material shifts between past narration and present-tense general facts.

DRIFT (Retell Lecture)"The lecturer explains that Fleming discovers penicillin by accident."

FIX"The lecturer explained that Fleming discovered penicillin by accident." (পুরো বাক্যে অতীতকাল)

DRIFT (Write Essay)"Renewable energy became cheaper, and it creates many new jobs."

FIX"Renewable energy has become cheaper, and it has created many new jobs." (উভয় ক্রিয়া একই ফ্রেমে)

Method: before speaking or writing, silently decide "past narration" or "present general fact" for the whole answer, then check each verb against that choice as you go.

পদ্ধতি: শুরুতেই ঠিক করুন পুরো উত্তর কোন কালে থাকবে, তারপর প্রতিটি ক্রিয়া মিলিয়ে দেখুন।

Perfect Tense Traps (Perfect কালের ফাঁদ)

Reading Fill in the Blanks (Dropdown) frequently tests whether you can distinguish simple past from present/past perfect based on a time signal elsewhere in the sentence.

TRAP (Dropdown)Coffee cultivation [spread / had spread / spreads / spreading] to the Arabian Peninsula by the fifteenth century.

FIX"had spread" — past perfect, because the action was completed before a stated past point ("by the fifteenth century").

TRAP (Essay)"Since 2015, renewable jobs grew steadily."

FIX"Since 2015, renewable jobs have grown steadily." ("since" + present perfect — এখনো চলছে এমন প্রবণতা।)
