Personal Introduction Not Scored

Read the prompt, then record your introduction.

"Please introduce yourself. In your introduction you may wish to include information about your interests, your plans for study, and why you are taking this test."

1 · Read Aloud

Prepare, then read the text aloud clearly and naturally.

"Congestion pricing, a policy that charges drivers a fee for entering busy city centres during peak travel hours, has been adopted by several major cities seeking to reduce traffic jams and encourage greater use of public transportation. Early evidence from cities that implemented such schemes suggests meaningful reductions in traffic volume and improved average travel speeds, although the policy remains politically controversial among drivers who view it as an unfair additional cost."

Trap: the scoring engine checks every word — skipping or mispronouncing one costs both Reading and Speaking marks.

2 · Repeat Sentence

Listen once, then immediately repeat the sentence exactly.

Show the sentence (after you try)

"The university library extended its opening hours during the final examination period."

3 · Describe Image

Prepare, then describe the chart in your own words.

Renewable Energy Jobs by Sector (millions, global) 4.9Solar 2.5Bioenergy 1.4Wind 0.5Hydro

Trap: don't just list numbers — open with the overall trend ("solar accounts for the largest share of renewable jobs"), then give 2-3 supporting details.

4 · Retell Lecture

Listen to the lecture (taking notes if you like), then retell its key points.

"Today let's explore why salt is used to melt ice on roads and pathways during winter. Pure water freezes at exactly zero degrees Celsius, but dissolving salt into water lowers the temperature at which the mixture freezes, a phenomenon scientists call freezing point depression. When salt is scattered on an icy surface, it dissolves into any thin film of liquid water present on the ice, forming a salty solution that requires a much lower temperature to freeze than pure water does. This means ice already present can begin melting even when the surrounding air temperature remains well below water's normal freezing point, since the resulting salty water simply cannot freeze again until the temperature drops much further. However, this effect has clear limits: at extremely low temperatures, typically well below negative ten degrees Celsius depending on the salt used, common road salt becomes far less effective, since even a saturated salt solution will eventually freeze if conditions are cold enough. This is why regions experiencing extremely severe winters often supplement or replace standard salt with alternative de-icing chemicals that remain effective at much lower temperatures, despite typically being considerably more expensive to use at scale."

5 · Answer Short Question

Listen to the question, then answer with a single word or short phrase.

Show expected answer (after you try)

"A geologist." — one word is enough; a full sentence is not required.

6 · Summarize Group Discussion

Listen to the discussion, then give a spoken summary covering both viewpoints.

Speaker A: "I believe primary schools should abolish homework entirely, since young children need unstructured free time after school for play, family time and rest, which research shows are equally important for healthy development."

Speaker B: "I understand that concern, but a small, well-designed amount of homework, like brief reading practice, can help build consistent study habits early and reinforce what was taught during the school day."

Speaker A: "That's reasonable for reading specifically, though many current homework assignments go well beyond simple reading practice and can create real stress for young children and their families."

Speaker B: "Agreed, so perhaps the real issue is homework quantity and design rather than homework itself; a strict limit on total time, rather than complete abolition, might address both concerns."

Moderator: "So one position favours abolishing primary school homework entirely, while another favours keeping a small, carefully limited amount focused specifically on habit-building."

Trap: mention at least two different viewpoints — not just one speaker's opinion.

7 · Respond to a Situation

Prepare, then speak an appropriate response to the situation.

"You are travelling with your family but were assigned separate seats on your flight. Speak to a flight attendant and politely ask whether it is possible to be reseated together."
0:20

Trap: match your tone to the situation — a polite, brief request to airline staff works best.

8 · Summarize Written Text

Read the passage, then write a one-sentence summary (5-75 words) in 10 minutes.

"Urban rewilding, the practice of deliberately reintroducing native plants, wetlands and natural habitats into cities, has gained traction among urban planners seeking to counteract decades of unchecked concrete expansion. Advocates point to measurable benefits, including improved stormwater absorption during heavy rainfall, cooler local temperatures during summer heatwaves, and increased biodiversity as native insects, birds and small mammals return to restored green corridors within the city. Sceptics caution that rewilding projects require sustained long-term maintenance and funding commitments, and that poorly planned restoration efforts can sometimes attract unwanted wildlife or create maintenance challenges if not properly integrated with surrounding urban infrastructure. Nonetheless, a growing number of cities worldwide have begun incorporating rewilding principles into official urban planning policy, treating ecological restoration as a core infrastructure priority rather than a purely aesthetic afterthought."

9 · Write Essay

Write a 200-300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes.

"Some people believe governments should provide a universal basic income to all citizens regardless of employment status, while others believe this would discourage people from working. Discuss both views and give your own opinion."
0 words (target: 200-300)
📖 Compare with 3 sample responses (strong / mid / weak)
Strong

"Universal basic income, a regular unconditional cash payment provided to all citizens regardless of employment status, has attracted growing attention as a potential response to economic insecurity and rising automation. Supporters argue that a guaranteed income floor would reduce poverty directly, provide a genuine safety net during job transitions, and grant workers greater bargaining power by reducing their absolute dependence on any single job. Critics counter that unconditional payments could reduce incentives to seek employment, strain government budgets considerably, and potentially prove less effective than targeted welfare programmes designed specifically for those most in need. In my view, the evidence from limited basic income pilot programmes conducted so far has generally not shown large reductions in employment, suggesting the disincentive concern may be somewhat overstated, though funding a truly universal programme at meaningful payment levels remains a genuine fiscal challenge for most governments. A more realistic near-term approach may involve expanding targeted income support significantly rather than immediately pursuing full universality, while continuing to study pilot results carefully before broader implementation."

শক্তিশালী: উভয় দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি বিস্তারিত, প্রমাণভিত্তিক যুক্তি ও বাস্তবসম্মত মতামত।

Mid

"Universal basic income means government gives money to every citizen regularly. Some people think this is good because it helps poor people and gives everyone some safety if they lose their job. Other people think this is bad because it might make people not want to work anymore. Also it cost a lot of money for government. I think basic income can help people but government need to be careful about the cost. Maybe it is better to start with small amount first and see how it works before giving to everyone completely."

মধ্যম: মূল বিষয়বস্তু ঠিক আছে কিন্তু সহজ বাক্য, সীমিত শব্দভান্ডার।

Weak

"Basic income is new idea. Government give money all people. Some say good some say bad. I think it can help poor people some. But cost too much money maybe. Government must to think carefully before doing this policy for country."

দুর্বল: ব্যাকরণ ভুল অনেক, খুব কম শব্দ, স্পষ্ট গঠন নেই।
