How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 1, Test 1, Speaking interview. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page explains the format, the information-gap task, and useful language — all in our own words.

Note the older format. Cambridge IELTS 1 uses the earlier Speaking interview (one examiner, five phases, including a task where you ask the questions). Today's test uses Parts 1–2–3 instead, but this task is superb practice for fluency and question forms.

The Older Speaking Interview (5 Phases)
The interview lasts about 11–15 minutes with one examiner and moves through five phases. এক পরীক্ষকের সঙ্গে ~১১–১৫ মিনিট, পাঁচ ধাপে।

Phase 3 is the special one: the examiner gives you a cue card with a topic and a list of points, and you must ask the examiner questions to find out the information. This page focuses on that task. ৩নং ধাপ বিশেষ: কিউ কার্ডে টপিক ও পয়েন্ট থাকে, আর আপনি প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য বের করেন।
Information-Gap Task: University Clubs & Associations
Your task: you have just arrived at a new university during orientation week and want to know about the different clubs and associations you can join. The examiner plays a Student Union representative; you must find out the information by asking questions. আপনার কাজ: নতুন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে orientation সপ্তাহে যোগ দেওয়ার মতো ক্লাব ও সমিতি সম্পর্কে জানুন। পরীক্ষক Student Union প্রতিনিধি; প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য বের করুন।
Points to ask about (পয়েন্ট)
- Types of clubs. ক্লাবের ধরন।
- Meeting times. সভার সময়।
- Benefits of joining. যোগ দেওয়ার সুবিধা।
- Costs / subscriptions. খরচ/চাঁদা।
Cover every point on the card, ask full, correct questions, and react to the answers ("Oh, that sounds good — and…?") so it feels like a real conversation. প্রতিটি পয়েন্ট ছুঁয়ে যান, সম্পূর্ণ সঠিক প্রশ্ন করুন, উত্তরে প্রতিক্রিয়া দিন।
Forming Good Questions (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
The examiner is judging your question grammar here, so form each question carefully. Mix Wh- questions, yes/no questions and polite indirect questions. এখানে পরীক্ষক আপনার প্রশ্নের ব্যাকরণ দেখেন—যত্ন করে গঠন করুন।

Common error: word order. Say "How much does it cost?" not "How much it costs?". Indirect questions keep normal order: "Could you tell me when they meet?" সাধারণ ভুল: শব্দক্রম। পরোক্ষ প্রশ্নে স্বাভাবিক ক্রম রাখুন।
