Introduction: What is the IELTS Speaking Test?
ভূমিকা: IELTS Speaking পরীক্ষাটি কী?
The IELTS Speaking test is a face-to-face interview with a certified examiner, designed to assess how effectively you communicate in English. It is interactive and meant to feel like a real conversation, and the whole session is recorded. It is the same for Academic and General Training candidates.
IELTS স্পিকিং পরীক্ষাটি একজন সার্টিফাইড পরীক্ষকের সাথে একটি মুখোমুখি সাক্ষাৎকার, যা ইংরেজিতে আপনি কতটা কার্যকরভাবে যোগাযোগ করতে পারেন তা মূল্যায়ন করে। এটি ইন্টারেক্টিভ এবং একটি বাস্তব কথোপকথনের মতো, আর পুরো সেশনটি রেকর্ড করা হয়। Academic ও General Training উভয়ের জন্য এটি একই।

Format & Marking (ফরম্যাট এবং মার্কিং)
Your speaking is scored on four criteria, each worth exactly 25% of the mark. Your final Speaking band is the average. Knowing what each criterion rewards lets you demonstrate it on purpose.

Speak at a natural speed without long hesitation, and link ideas logically with connectors (because, however, in addition, for instance).
Lexical Resourceশব্দভান্ডার
Use a wide, accurate vocabulary — including less common and topic words — and paraphrase smoothly when you lack a word.
Grammatical Rangeব্যাকরণ
Mix simple and complex sentence structures (conditionals, relative clauses, a range of tenses) with good accuracy.
Pronunciationউচ্চারণ
Be clear and easy to understand, with natural stress and intonation. A native accent is not required — clarity is.
Part 1: Introduction & Interview (৪–৫ মিনিট)
The examiner introduces themselves, verifies your identity, then asks general questions on familiar topics — home, family, work, studies, hobbies. This is the warm-up: relax and be natural.
পরীক্ষক নিজের পরিচয় দেন, আপনার পরিচয় যাচাই করেন, তারপর পরিচিত বিষয়ে সাধারণ প্রশ্ন করেন — বাড়ি, পরিবার, কাজ, পড়াশোনা, শখ। এটি ওয়ার্ম-আপ: স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যে ও স্বাভাবিক থাকুন।
Q: "Tell me about the town where you grew up."
"I grew up in Dhaka, the bustling capital of Bangladesh. It's an incredibly vibrant and energetic city — always full of life, though it can be a little chaotic at times. I've lived there my whole life, so I'm deeply attached to its unique atmosphere."
Q: "What are you studying at the moment?"
"Currently, I'm in my final year of a Bachelor's in Computer Science at BRAC University. It's quite demanding, but I find it fascinating — especially the modules on artificial intelligence and machine learning."
Use the "Answer + Reason + Example" habit. Never give one-word answers; extend every reply with a reason or a small example. Stay spontaneous — memorised answers are easy to spot and hurt your score.
"উত্তর + কারণ + উদাহরণ" অভ্যাস করুন। কখনো এক-শব্দে উত্তর নয়; প্রতিটি উত্তর কারণ বা ছোট উদাহরণ দিয়ে বাড়ান। স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত থাকুন — মুখস্থ উত্তর ধরা পড়ে ও নম্বর কমায়।
Part 2: Long Turn (Cue Card) (৩–৪ মিনিট)
You get a task card with a topic and prompts. You have 1 minute to prepare and make notes, then speak for 1–2 minutes without interruption. The examiner may ask one or two short follow-ups.
আপনি একটি টাস্ক কার্ড পাবেন যাতে বিষয় ও পয়েন্ট থাকবে। প্রস্তুতি ও নোট নেওয়ার জন্য ১ মিনিট, তারপর বাধা ছাড়াই ১–২ মিনিট কথা বলবেন। পরীক্ষক এক-দুটি ছোট follow-up করতে পারেন।

Part 3: Discussion (৪–৫ মিনিট)
The examiner asks more abstract, in-depth questions linked to the Part 2 topic. This is a genuine two-way discussion where you give well-supported opinions and analyse issues.

"What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting information from the internet instead of books?"
Sample answer"Well, the most obvious advantage is the sheer speed and volume of information — you can find answers in seconds. That said, a significant drawback is reliability; anyone can post online, so it isn't always accurate. Books, on the other hand, tend to be well-researched and edited, making them more trustworthy, though they can become outdated."
"How do you think the way people use the internet will change in the future?"
Sample answer"That's an interesting question. I imagine the internet will become even more deeply integrated into daily life through wearable tech and the 'Internet of Things'. Our homes and appliances will likely be connected, and we'll interact more by voice than by typing. Virtual and augmented reality could also play a much bigger role in how we experience content online."
Use the P-E-E method: Point (state your view) → Explain (give a reason) → Example (support it). It instantly makes answers coherent and developed.

Sprinkle natural expressions where they fit: "it costs an arm and a leg" (very expensive), "I'm on the fence" (undecided).
Paraphrase the Questionপ্রশ্ন ভিন্নভাবে বলুন
Don't parrot the examiner's words — rephrase them to open your answer. It signals strong vocabulary.

Deploy varied tenses and complex forms — conditionals like "If I had the chance, I would...".

Use fillers like "That's an interesting question..." to think — but avoid overusing "um" and "uh".

- Use linking words to connect ideas. সংযোগকারী শব্দ ব্যবহার করুন।
- Smile, make eye contact, stay relaxed. স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যে থাকুন।
Don'ts (বর্জনীয়)
- Don't memorise scripted answers. মুখস্থ উত্তর নয়।
- Don't give one-word replies. এক-শব্দে উত্তর নয়।
- Don't stay silent — think aloud. চুপ থাকবেন না।
- Don't use words you can't pronounce. অজানা উচ্চারণের শব্দ নয়।
A Practical Study Plan (একটি বাস্তবসম্মত অধ্যয়ন পরিকল্পনা)
Phase 1: Foundation
Goal: Understand the format & four criteria. ফরম্যাট ও চারটি মানদণ্ড বোঝা।
Do: Record yourself answering Part 1 questions; listen back for grammar and pronunciation errors; learn opinion phrases. নিজের উত্তর রেকর্ড করে ভুল চিহ্নিত করুন।
Phase 2: Skill Development
Goal: Build fluency & structure for Parts 2 and 3. Part 2 ও 3-এর সাবলীলতা।
Do: Practise the 1-minute cue-card prep; speak the full 2 minutes; find a partner for Part 3; learn topic vocabulary (tech, environment, education). কিউ কার্ড অনুশীলন; বিষয়ভিত্তিক শব্দ শিখুন।
Phase 3: Exam Simulation
Goal: Build confidence and perform under pressure. আত্মবিশ্বাস ও চাপ সামলানো।
Do: Full mock tests (Parts 1–3) with a friend/teacher as examiner; record and get feedback on all four criteria. সম্পূর্ণ মক টেস্ট; চারটি মানদণ্ডে ফিডব্যাক নিন।
The #1 habit: speak English aloud every day, even alone. Describe your day, argue both sides of a topic, or narrate what you see. Confidence comes from mileage.
এক নম্বর অভ্যাস: প্রতিদিন জোরে ইংরেজিতে কথা বলুন, একা হলেও। দিন বর্ণনা করুন, একটি বিষয়ের দুই দিক নিয়ে যুক্তি দিন। অনুশীলন থেকেই আত্মবিশ্বাস আসে।
