Band 9
1. I try to, yes, though not as regularly as I’d like. I mostly go for a run a few times a week, and I’ll occasionally play badminton with friends at the weekend.
2. Quite a lot, actually. I was mad about cricket as a kid — I’d play in the street with the neighbourhood children until it got dark.
3. I lean towards individual sports like running, because I can do them whenever it suits me. That said, there’s a camaraderie in team sports that’s hard to beat.
4. Sadly, yes. With so many desk jobs and so much screen time, people have become far more sedentary than previous generations, and it’s taking a toll on public health.
Band 7
1. Yes, I try to, but not as often as I would like. I usually go for a run a few times a week, and sometimes I play badminton with friends at the weekend.

3. I prefer individual sports like running, because I can do them whenever I want. But there is a good team spirit in team sports too.

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations
Band 9
1. I do, genuinely. I’m quite a curious person by nature, so I get a real sense of satisfaction from picking up a skill I couldn’t do before.
2. Recently I’ve been teaching myself basic video editing, mostly through online tutorials. It’s been surprisingly enjoyable, and I can already put together a decent little clip.
3. It depends on what I’m learning. For something practical I prefer learning with others, because you can bounce ideas around, but for studying I concentrate better on my own.
4. Fairly, as long as I’m genuinely interested. If a subject captures my imagination I’ll absorb it quickly; if not, I have to be quite disciplined to stick with it.

Band 9
1. Definitely. My main goal at the moment is to study abroad, which is partly why I’m sitting IELTS, but I also want to become fluent in another language.
2. A bit of both, honestly. Professionally I want to build a meaningful career, but on a personal level I’m equally keen to travel widely and stay close to my family.
3. To an extent, yes. Having a rough plan gives you direction and keeps you motivated, though I do think you have to stay flexible, because life rarely goes exactly as planned.
4. Quite a lot. As a teenager my ambitions were fairly vague and often unrealistic, whereas now they’re much more focused and grounded in what I actually value.

Band 9 ~2 minutes
The skill I’d love to learn is playing the guitar, something I’ve been meaning to take up for years but have never quite got around to.
The main reason I want to learn it is that I’ve always been passionate about music, but only ever as a listener. Being able to actually create music myself, rather than just consuming it, really appeals to me. There’s also something wonderfully sociable about the guitar — I love the idea of playing a few songs at a gathering and getting everyone singing along.
As for how I’d go about it, I think I’d start with online video tutorials, since there’s a huge amount of free material available these days. I’d probably buy a cheap second-hand guitar to begin with, practise for twenty minutes or so every day, and perhaps join a beginners’ group later on to stay motivated.
In terms of how it would be useful, I think the benefits would go well beyond the music itself. Learning an instrument is supposed to be great for concentration and discipline, and I imagine it would be a fantastic way to unwind after a stressful day — a healthy escape from screens.
So, all in all, it’s a skill I’m genuinely determined to learn. I just need to stop making excuses, buy that guitar, and finally get started.

Band 9
1. It’s crucial, I’d say. The world is changing so rapidly that the skills we learned years ago can quickly become obsolete, so continuous learning keeps us employable and, just as importantly, keeps the mind sharp and engaged.
2. There are merits to both. A good teacher can correct your mistakes and save you a lot of time, which is invaluable at the start. However, teaching yourself builds independence and problem-solving skills, so ideally you’d combine the two.
3. Not really, in my experience. Schools tend to focus heavily on academic knowledge and exams, while practical life skills — like managing money or basic cooking — are often neglected, which leaves many young people underprepared for adult life.
4. Usually because progress feels slow at the beginning. People expect quick results, and when they hit the inevitable plateau, they get discouraged and lose motivation. Learning anything worthwhile requires patience and a tolerance for failure.
5. Extremely important, I think. Goals give our lives a sense of direction and purpose; they’re what get us out of bed in the morning. Without something to strive for, it’s very easy to drift and feel unfulfilled.
Band 7
1. It is very important. The world is changing so fast that the skills we learned before can become useless quickly, so continuous learning keeps us employable and keeps our minds active.
2. There are advantages to both. A good teacher can correct your mistakes and save you time, which is very useful at the start. But teaching yourself builds independence, so it is best to combine both.
3. Not really, in my experience. Schools focus a lot on academic knowledge and exams, but practical skills, like managing money or cooking, are often ignored, so many young people are not ready for adult life.
4. Usually because progress feels slow at the beginning. People expect quick results, and when improvement stops for a while, they get discouraged and lose motivation. Learning anything needs patience.
5. Very important, I think. Goals give our lives direction and purpose. Without something to work for, it is easy to lose your way and feel unhappy.
