How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 1, Test 3, Speaking interview. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page explains the format, the information-gap task, and useful language — all in our own words.

Note the older format. Cambridge IELTS 1 uses the earlier Speaking interview (one examiner, five phases, including a task where you ask the questions). Today's test uses Parts 1–2–3 instead, but this task is superb practice for fluency and question forms.

The Older Speaking Interview (5 Phases)
The interview lasts about 11–15 minutes with one examiner and moves through five phases. এক পরীক্ষকের সঙ্গে ~১১–১৫ মিনিট, পাঁচ ধাপে।

Phase 3 is the special one: the examiner gives you a cue card with a topic and a list of points, and you must ask the examiner questions to find out the information. This page focuses on that task. ৩নং ধাপ বিশেষ: কিউ কার্ডে টপিক ও পয়েন্ট থাকে, আর আপনি প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য বের করেন।
Information-Gap Task: The Public Holiday
Your task: there will soon be a public holiday in the country the examiner comes from, and you want to find out about it. The examiner answers as someone from that country; you must ask the questions. আপনার কাজ: পরীক্ষকের দেশে শীঘ্রই একটি সরকারি ছুটি; সেটি সম্পর্কে জানুন। পরীক্ষক ওই দেশের কেউ; আপনি প্রশ্ন করুন।
Points to ask about (পয়েন্ট)
- The name of the public holiday. ছুটির নাম।
- The significance of the holiday. তাৎপর্য।
- Services open (banks, shops, cinemas). খোলা সেবা।
- Things for visitors to do. পর্যটকের করণীয়।
- How the examiner will spend the day. তিনি কীভাবে কাটাবেন।
Cover every point on the card, ask full, correct questions, and react with interest ("Oh, how interesting!") so it feels like a genuine conversation. প্রতিটি পয়েন্ট ছুঁয়ে যান, সম্পূর্ণ সঠিক প্রশ্ন করুন, আগ্রহ দেখান।
Forming Good Questions (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
The examiner is judging your question grammar here, so form each question carefully. Mix Wh- questions, yes/no questions and polite indirect questions. এখানে পরীক্ষক আপনার প্রশ্নের ব্যাকরণ দেখেন—যত্ন করে গঠন করুন।

Common error: word order. Say "Why is this day important?" not "Why this day is important?". Use "going to" for the examiner's plans. সাধারণ ভুল: শব্দক্রম। পরিকল্পনায় "going to" ব্যবহার করুন।
