How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 1, Test 4, Speaking interview. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page explains the format, the information-gap task, and useful language — all in our own words.

Note the older format. Cambridge IELTS 1 uses the earlier Speaking interview (one examiner, five phases, including a task where you ask the questions). Today's test uses Parts 1–2–3 instead, but this task is superb practice for fluency and question forms.

Don't memorise. Use these as ideas and language to practise with — speak naturally.

The Older Speaking Interview (5 Phases)
The interview lasts about 11–15 minutes with one examiner and moves through five phases. এক পরীক্ষকের সঙ্গে ~১১–১৫ মিনিট, পাঁচ ধাপে।

Phase 3 is the special one: the examiner gives you a cue card with a topic and a list of points, and you must ask the examiner questions to find out the information. This page focuses on that task. ৩নং ধাপ বিশেষ: কিউ কার্ডে টপিক ও পয়েন্ট থাকে, আর আপনি প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য বের করেন।
Information-Gap Task: The Excursion
Your task: the Overseas Students' Club is organising an excursion to a local tourist spot and you are thinking of joining. The examiner plays one of the organisers; find out the details by asking questions. আপনার কাজ: Overseas Students' Club একটি স্থানীয় দর্শনীয় স্থানে ভ্রমণ আয়োজন করছে; আপনি যোগ দেওয়ার কথা ভাবছেন। পরীক্ষক একজন আয়োজক; প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য জানুন।
Points to ask about (পয়েন্ট)
- Destination. গন্তব্য।
- Means of transport. যাতায়াত।
- Length of the excursion. সময়কাল।
- Cost. খরচ।
- Meals. খাবার।
- Clothing / equipment. পোশাক/সরঞ্জাম।
Cover every point on the card, ask full, correct questions, and react ("That sounds fun — and…?"). In the book's example, a special bus is provided, meals are not included, and walking shoes are recommended. প্রতিটি পয়েন্ট ছুঁয়ে যান, সম্পূর্ণ সঠিক প্রশ্ন করুন। উদাহরণে বিশেষ বাস আছে, খাবার নেই, ওয়াকিং জুতা সুপারিশ করা হয়।
Forming Good Questions (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
The examiner is judging your question grammar here, so form each question carefully. Mix Wh- questions, yes/no questions and polite indirect questions. এখানে পরীক্ষক আপনার প্রশ্নের ব্যাকরণ দেখেন—যত্ন করে গঠন করুন।

Common error: word order. Say "How long does it last?" not "How long it lasts?". Use "should I…?" for advice. সাধারণ ভুল: শব্দক্রম। পরামর্শে "should I…?" ব্যবহার করুন।
