A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 1, Test 4, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 1, Test 4, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: The Development of Chorleywood Village (Map)
What the task shows: a map of Chorleywood, a village near London whose population has grown steadily since the mid-nineteenth century. The map shows the village's development between 1868 and 1994, using shading for four periods (1868–1883, 1883–1922, 1922–1970, 1970–1994) and marking the main roads, the railway (built 1909), the motorway (built 1970), and Chorleywood Park and Golf Course. What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Earliest growth was near the railway station. রেলস্টেশনের কাছে শুরু।
- The village spread outward over time. বাইরের দিকে ছড়িয়েছে।
- Roads & the motorway shaped growth. সড়ক ও মোটরওয়ে।
- The park stayed undeveloped. পার্ক অপরিবর্তিত।
Overview to aim for: Chorleywood grew outward from a small area near the railway station in the late 1800s to cover a much larger area by 1994, its expansion following the roads while the central park remained open. Use the periods to organise your report. ওভারভিউ: ১৮০০-এর শেষে রেলস্টেশনের কাছের ছোট এলাকা থেকে ১৯৯৪ নাগাদ Chorleywood অনেক বড় হয়েছে, সড়ক অনুসরণ করে বেড়েছে, কেন্দ্রীয় পার্ক খালি থেকেছে। সময়কাল ধরে সাজান।
Tips: use the past tense and passive (was built, was developed), and directions (to the north, along the road). অতীত কাল, passive ও দিক-শব্দ ব্যবহার করুন।
Task 2: The End of the Single Career?
The prompt (in short): the idea of having a single career is becoming old-fashioned; the new fashion will be to have several careers or ways of earning money, and further education will continue throughout life. Discuss this statement, giving your own view. A discussion / opinion essay. প্রশ্ন: একটিমাত্র ক্যারিয়ার-এর ধারণা এখন সেকেলে; নতুন ধারা হবে একাধিক ক্যারিয়ার বা আয়ের পথ, এবং উচ্চশিক্ষা সারা জীবন চলবে। এ বক্তব্য আলোচনা করে নিজের মত দিন। আলোচনা/মতামত রচনা।

Why change is happening

A strong answer usually agrees to a large extent: multiple careers and lifelong learning are increasingly the norm, though they bring challenges. State your view clearly and support it. শক্ত উত্তর সাধারণত অনেকাংশে একমত: একাধিক ক্যারিয়ার ও আজীবন শিক্ষা ক্রমশ স্বাভাবিক, যদিও চ্যালেঞ্জ আছে। নিজের মত স্পষ্ট করুন।
