A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 11, Test 4, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 11, Test 4, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Ashdown Museum — Visitors & Satisfaction (Table + Pie Charts)
What the task shows: a table giving the total number of visitors to Ashdown Museum in the year before and the year after it was refurbished (74,000 → 92,000), plus two pie charts showing how satisfied visitors were in each period. Summarise the main features and make comparisons. What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Visitors rose from 74,000 to 92,000 after refurbishment. দর্শনার্থী বেড়েছে।
- Satisfaction improved: "very satisfied" rose (15%→35%), "dissatisfied" fell (40%→15%). সন্তুষ্টি বেড়েছে।
- Overall: both numbers and satisfaction improved after the work. সব দিকেই উন্নতি।
Overview to aim for: after the refurbishment the museum attracted more visitors and satisfied them far more — the "very satisfied" share more than doubled while "dissatisfied" and "very dissatisfied" fell sharply. Cover the table and both pies in one overview. ওভারভিউ: সংস্কারের পর বেশি দর্শনার্থী ও অনেক বেশি সন্তুষ্টি; "very satisfied" দ্বিগুণের বেশি, অসন্তুষ্টি দ্রুত কমেছে।
Tips: use the past tense; link the table and pies (more visitors and happier ones). Use change language for the pies and precise figures for both. Don't describe every slice — select the biggest changes. অতীত কাল; টেবিল ও পাই যুক্ত করুন; বড় পরিবর্তন নির্বাচন করুন।
Task 2: Economic Progress vs Other Types of Progress
The prompt (in short): many governments think economic progress is their most important goal, but some people think other types of progress are equally important for a country. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. A discuss-both-views + opinion essay. প্রশ্ন: অনেক সরকার অর্থনৈতিক অগ্রগতিকে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মনে করে; কেউ মনে করেন অন্য ধরনের অগ্রগতিও সমান গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। দুই মত + নিজের মত।

A balanced opinion: economic progress is important because it funds everything else, but it should not be the only goal — real development also needs progress in health, education, equality and the environment. State your view clearly. ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ মত: অর্থনৈতিক অগ্রগতি জরুরি, তবে একমাত্র লক্ষ্য নয় — স্বাস্থ্য, শিক্ষা, সমতা ও পরিবেশেও অগ্রগতি দরকার। মত স্পষ্ট করুন।
