How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 12, Test 5, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 12, Test 5, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়। (এটি বইয়ের Test 5।)
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Australians Doing Regular Physical Activity (Bar Chart)
What the task shows: a bar chart giving the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010. You must summarise the main features and make comparisons — between the genders and across the age groups. This is a bar-chart comparison, so grouping and comparing matters more than listing every number. টাস্কে যা আছে: ২০১০ সালে বিভিন্ন বয়সের অস্ট্রেলীয় পুরুষ ও নারীর নিয়মিত ব্যায়ামের শতকরা হার (বার চার্ট)। লিঙ্গ ও বয়স অনুযায়ী তুলনা করুন।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Overall trend: among women, activity generally rises with age; among men it tends to fall then rise. নারীদের বয়সে বাড়ে; পুরুষদের ধরন ভিন্ন।
- Gender gap: in the youngest group men are more active; in older groups women often overtake them. তরুণে পুরুষ বেশি; বয়স্কে নারী এগিয়ে।
- Highest/lowest: pick out the peak group and the lowest group to anchor the overview. সর্বোচ্চ ও সর্বনিম্ন দল।
Overview to aim for: state the big picture — for women, participation broadly increases with age, whereas for men it is highest among the young and the pattern is less regular; the two sexes are closest in the middle age bands. Save exact figures for the body paragraphs. ওভারভিউ: নারীদের বয়সে অংশগ্রহণ বাড়ে; পুরুষদের ধরন কম নিয়মিত। মূল সংখ্যা body-তে দিন।
Chart tips: use the past tense (data is for 2010). Compare, don't just list: use while, whereas, compared with, roughly the same as. Quote a few key percentages accurately and use approximations (just over, nearly, around) for the rest. অতীত কাল ব্যবহার করুন; while/whereas দিয়ে তুলনা; কিছু সঠিক শতাংশ ও আনুমানিক শব্দ।
Task 2: Should Information Be Shared Freely?
The prompt (in short): some people believe it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world; others believe some information is too important or valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. A discuss-both-views + opinion essay. প্রশ্ন: কেউ মনে করেন বিজ্ঞান, ব্যবসা ও শিক্ষায় যত বেশি সম্ভব তথ্য ভাগ করা ভালো; কেউ মনে করেন কিছু তথ্য এত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যে অবাধে ভাগ করা উচিত নয়। দুই মত + নিজের মত।

Share freely
- Open sharing speeds up scientific progress. বিজ্ঞানের অগ্রগতি দ্রুত হয়।
- Others can check, correct and build on findings. যাচাই ও উন্নয়ন।
- Knowledge benefits society, not just its owner. সমাজের উপকার।
Keep some private
- Trade secrets protect a company's competitiveness. বাণিজ্যিক গোপনীয়তা।
- Sensitive data (security, personal) can be misused. অপব্যবহারের ঝুঁকি।
- Some research funding depends on ownership of results. অর্থায়ন ও মালিকানা।
A balanced opinion works well: information that advances public knowledge and safety should generally be shared, while genuinely sensitive data (security-related or commercially critical) may reasonably be restricted. Make your position clear in the introduction and again in the conclusion. ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ মত: জনস্বার্থের তথ্য ভাগ হোক, কিন্তু সত্যিই সংবেদনশীল তথ্য সীমিত রাখা যুক্তিযুক্ত। ভূমিকা ও উপসংহারে মত স্পষ্ট করুন।
