How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 12, Test 6, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 12, Test 6, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস। (এটি বইয়ের Test 6।)
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Islip Town Centre — Now vs Planned Development
What the task shows: two maps of the town centre of Islip — how it is now and how it is planned to look after redevelopment. You must summarise the main features and compare the two. This is a map/plan-change task, so the language of location and change matters most. টাস্কে যা আছে: Islip শহর-কেন্দ্রের বর্তমান ও প্রস্তাবিত পুনর্গঠনের দুটি মানচিত্র। অবস্থান ও পরিবর্তনের ভাষা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
Key changes (মূল পরিবর্তন)
- Kept the same: some existing roads and buildings remain. অপরিবর্তিত: কিছু রাস্তা ও ভবন।
- Removed/replaced: shops in the centre are replaced; a new pedestrianised area appears. সরানো: কেন্দ্রের দোকান; পথচারী এলাকা।
- Added: a new bus station, housing, a car park and a dual carriageway around the centre. যোগ: বাস স্টেশন, আবাসন, পার্কিং, প্রধান সড়ক।
Overview to aim for: the town centre becomes larger and more organised — the shopping area is pedestrianised, a ring road (dual carriageway) is built to keep traffic out of the centre, and new housing and transport facilities are added, while some original streets stay in place. ওভারভিউ: কেন্দ্র বড় ও সুশৃঙ্খল হয় — পথচারী এলাকা, রিং-রোড, নতুন আবাসন ও পরিবহন; কিছু পুরনো রাস্তা থাকে।
Map tips: the second map is a plan, so use future/passive (will be built, is to be replaced by, a new… will be constructed). Use compass directions and prepositions (to the north of, alongside, in place of). Group what stays, goes and is added. দ্বিতীয় মানচিত্র প্রস্তাবিত — future/passive; দিক ও অবস্থান-শব্দ; গোষ্ঠীবদ্ধভাবে লিখুন।
Task 2: A Large Number of Young Adults — Advantages vs Disadvantages
The prompt (in short): at present, some countries have a relatively large number of young adults compared with older people. Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages? An advantages/disadvantages (outweigh) essay — you must take a clear side. প্রশ্ন: কিছু দেশে এখন বয়স্কদের তুলনায় তরুণদের সংখ্যা বেশি। সুবিধা কি অসুবিধাকে ছাড়িয়ে যায়? — সুবিধা/অসুবিধা রচনা; স্পষ্ট পক্ষ নিন।

Advantages
- A large, energetic workforce boosts the economy. বড় কর্মশক্তি অর্থনীতি বাড়ায়।
- More innovation, new skills and adaptability. উদ্ভাবন ও দক্ষতা।
- Fewer people to support in retirement (for now). এখন কম নির্ভরশীল বয়স্ক।
Disadvantages
- High youth unemployment if jobs are scarce. তরুণ বেকারত্ব।
- Pressure on education and housing. শিক্ষা ও আবাসনে চাপ।
- An ageing problem later when this group grows old. পরে বার্ধক্য সমস্যা।
Take a clear position and defend it. A common strong line: the advantages outweigh the disadvantages only if the country creates enough jobs and education for its young people; otherwise the "youth bulge" becomes a burden. State your verdict in the introduction and conclusion. স্পষ্ট পক্ষ নিন: পর্যাপ্ত কাজ ও শিক্ষা থাকলে সুবিধা বেশি, নইলে বোঝা। ভূমিকা ও উপসংহারে রায় দিন।
