How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 14, Test 4, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 14, Test 4, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Grange Park — 1920 vs Today (Two Maps)
What the task shows: two plans/maps of the same public park (Grange Park) — as it first opened in 1920 and as it is today. You must summarise the main features and make comparisons. This is a map/plan comparison, so focus on what was removed, added and kept, and use location language. টাস্কে যা আছে: একই পার্কের (Grange Park) দুটি মানচিত্র — ১৯২০ ও এখন। কী সরানো হয়েছে, যোগ হয়েছে, রাখা হয়েছে — অবস্থান-ভাষা ব্যবহার করুন।
Main changes (মূল পরিবর্তন)
- Removed: the fountain, the glasshouse, the pond for water plants, the stage for musicians, and two of the rose gardens. সরানো: ফোয়ারা, গ্লাসহাউস, পুকুর, মঞ্চ, দুটি গোলাপ বাগান।
- Added: an amphitheatre for concerts (where the stage was), a café, a children's play area, a water feature, and an underground car park with a new entrance. যোগ: অ্যাম্ফিথিয়েটার, ক্যাফে, শিশুদের খেলার জায়গা, ওয়াটার ফিচার, ভূগর্ভস্থ পার্কিং।
- Kept: one rose garden, seats, and the two entrances on Arnold Avenue and Eldon Street. রাখা: একটি গোলাপ বাগান, বসার আসন, দুটি প্রবেশপথ।
Overview to aim for: the park has become more of a leisure and family destination — features for quiet enjoyment (fountain, glasshouse, pond) gave way to facilities for concerts, children and refreshments, though the basic layout and entrances remain. ওভারভিউ: পার্কটি এখন বেশি বিনোদন-কেন্দ্রিক; শান্ত উপাদানের বদলে কনসার্ট, শিশু ও খাবারের সুবিধা এসেছে, তবে মূল কাঠামো অটুট।
Map tips: use compass/relative position (in the north-west corner, along Eldon Street, in the centre) and the passive for change (was replaced by, has been added, was removed). Past tense for 1920, present perfect/present for today. অবস্থান ও passive ব্যবহার করুন; ১৯২০-এর জন্য past, আজকের জন্য present।
Task 2: Why Do People Choose Self-Employment? (Reasons + Disadvantages)
The prompt (in short): nowadays many people choose to be self-employed, rather than to work for a company or organisation. Why might this be the case? What could be the disadvantages of being self-employed? This is a two-part (direct question) essay — answer both questions with a body paragraph each. প্রশ্ন: এখন অনেকে চাকরির বদলে স্ব-নিয়োজিত হন। কেন? স্ব-নিয়োজনের অসুবিধা কী? দুই অংশ — প্রতিটির জন্য একটি অনুচ্ছেদ।

Why people choose it
- Freedom and flexible working hours. স্বাধীনতা ও নমনীয় সময়।
- Being your own boss; pursuing a passion. নিজের বস; আগ্রহের কাজ।
- Technology and the internet make it easy to start. প্রযুক্তি সহজ করেছে।
- Potentially higher income and job satisfaction. বেশি আয় ও তৃপ্তি।
Disadvantages
- Unstable, irregular income; no fixed salary. অনিশ্চিত আয়।
- No paid holidays, sick pay or pension. ছুটি/পেনশন নেই।
- Long hours, stress and financial risk. দীর্ঘ সময় ও ঝুঁকি।
- Isolation; you handle everything yourself. একা সব সামলানো।
This is a "reasons + disadvantages" question, not an opinion essay — you don't have to say which is better. Just answer both questions fully with clear examples, and make sure each body paragraph has a clear topic sentence. এটি মতামত রচনা নয় — দুটি প্রশ্নেরই স্পষ্ট উত্তর দিন, প্রতিটি অনুচ্ছেদে টপিক-বাক্য রাখুন।
