How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 16, Test 1, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 16, Test 1, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। Writing-এ একটিমাত্র সঠিক উত্তর নেই, তাই এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো ও পরিকল্পনা, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়। বইয়ের টাস্ক বা নমুনা রচনা হুবহু ছাপা হয়নি।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much — never let Task 1 eat its time.

Task 1: Electrical Appliances & Housework (1920–2019)
What the task shows: two line charts for one country. Chart 1 = the percentage of households owning three appliances (washing machine, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner) from 1920 to 2019. Chart 2 = the number of hours of housework done per household per week over the same period. Your job: select and report the main features and make comparisons. টাস্কে যা আছে: একটি দেশের দুটি লাইন-চার্ট। চার্ট ১ = তিনটি যন্ত্র (ওয়াশিং মেশিন, ফ্রিজ, ভ্যাকুয়াম ক্লিনার) থাকা পরিবারের শতাংশ (১৯২০–২০১৯)। চার্ট ২ = সপ্তাহে গৃহকাজের ঘণ্টা। কাজ: মূল বৈশিষ্ট্য বেছে বর্ণনা ও তুলনা।

The key insight for your overview: as ownership of all three appliances rose over the century, the weekly hours of housework fell sharply — a clear inverse relationship. Refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reached almost 100% of households, while washing machines climbed more slowly to about 70%. Housework dropped from about 50 hours a week to only around 10. State this link without quoting every number.
ওভারভিউয়ের মূল কথা: তিনটি যন্ত্রের মালিকানা যত বাড়ল, গৃহকাজের ঘণ্টা তত কমল — স্পষ্ট বিপরীত সম্পর্ক। ফ্রিজ ও ভ্যাকুয়াম ক্লিনার প্রায় ১০০%, ওয়াশিং মেশিন ধীরে ~৭০%। গৃহকাজ ~৫০ ঘণ্টা থেকে ~১০ ঘণ্টায়।
Common mistakes with line graphs: (1) describing every year instead of the overall trend; (2) not giving figures with dates (in 1920 …, by 2019 …); (3) mixing up the two charts. Use crossover points (e.g. where washing machines overtake something) and vary your verbs — rose, climbed, levelled off, fell, dropped, plummeted.
লাইন-গ্রাফে সাধারণ ভুল: প্রতি বছর বর্ণনা; তারিখসহ সংখ্যা না দেওয়া; দুই চার্ট মিশিয়ে ফেলা। ক্রসওভার পয়েন্ট ব্যবহার করুন ও ক্রিয়ায় বৈচিত্র্য আনুন (rose, levelled off, fell)।
Task 2: Interest in the History of Your Home (Direct Questions)
The prompt (in short): "In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in." What are the reasons for this? How can people research this? This is a two-part / direct-question essay: answer both questions fully — you do not need to give an opinion. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): "কিছু দেশে মানুষ নিজের বাড়ি/ভবনের ইতিহাস জানতে বেশি আগ্রহী হচ্ছে।" কেন? কীভাবে গবেষণা করা যায়? এটি দুই-অংশ / সরাসরি-প্রশ্ন রচনা: দুটি প্রশ্নেরই পূর্ণ উত্তর দিন — মতামত দিতে হবে না।

Reasons (why)
- A sense of identity and belonging — people want to feel connected to their home. পরিচয় ও আপনত্বের অনুভূতি।
- Curiosity about who lived there and past events. কে থাকত তা নিয়ে কৌতূহল।
- Popular TV history/genealogy shows have made it fashionable. টিভি অনুষ্ঠান জনপ্রিয় করেছে।
- It can raise a property's value or aid restoration. সম্পত্তির মূল্য/সংস্কার।
Methods (how)
- Search online archives and land/property records. অনলাইন আর্কাইভ ও ভূমি-রেকর্ড।
- Visit local libraries and history societies. লাইব্রেরি ও ইতিহাস সমিতি।
- Look at old maps, photographs and census data. পুরনো মানচিত্র, ছবি, আদমশুমারি।
- Interview elderly neighbours or former owners. প্রবীণ প্রতিবেশীর সাক্ষাৎকার।
Because this is a direct-question essay, give roughly one body paragraph to each question, and develop 2–3 ideas per paragraph with explanations and examples. There is no "do you agree" here — do not add an unnecessary opinion. সরাসরি-প্রশ্ন রচনা: প্রতিটি প্রশ্নে একটি করে বডি প্যারাগ্রাফ, প্রতিটিতে ২–৩টি ভাব ব্যাখ্যাসহ। "একমত কি না" নেই — অপ্রয়োজনীয় মতামত যোগ করবেন না।
