A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 16, Test 3, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.

Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Southwest Airport — Now and After Development
What the task shows: two plans of Southwest Airport — the site "now" and how it "will look after development" next year. Your job: select and report the main changes and make comparisons. Key changes to note: the number of gates rises from 8 to 18; the walkway becomes a sky train; a bag drop, ATM, shops and car hire are added; and the café and check-in are relocated. টাস্কে যা আছে: Southwest Airport-এর দুটি প্ল্যান — "এখন" ও আগামী বছর "উন্নয়নের পর"। কাজ: মূল পরিবর্তন বেছে বর্ণনা ও তুলনা। গেট ৮ থেকে ১৮; ওয়াকওয়ে হয় স্কাই ট্রেন; ব্যাগ ড্রপ, ATM, দোকান, গাড়ি ভাড়া যোগ; ক্যাফে ও চেক-ইন সরানো।

The key insight for your overview: the airport is expanded and modernised, more than doubling its gates and adding new passenger facilities, while the pedestrian walkway is upgraded to a sky train. Give this "bigger and better" summary without listing every added service. Because the change happens "next year", use future forms.
ওভারভিউয়ের মূল কথা: বিমানবন্দর সম্প্রসারিত ও আধুনিক হয়, গেট দ্বিগুণের বেশি ও নতুন সুবিধা; ওয়াকওয়ে স্কাই ট্রেনে উন্নীত। "আগামী বছর" বলে future form ব্যবহার করুন।
Common mistakes with plan/map tasks: (1) no overview; (2) wrong tense — this plan is a future development, so use will be added / is going to be replaced by, not the past; (3) no directions. Use the passive and locational language (in the departures area, to the right of check-in).
প্ল্যান/মানচিত্র টাস্কে সাধারণ ভুল: ওভারভিউ না থাকা; ভুল কাল — এটি ভবিষ্যৎ উন্নয়ন, তাই will be added; দিক না দেওয়া। passive ও অবস্থান-ভাষা ব্যবহার করুন।
Task 2: Should Sugary Products Be Made More Expensive? (Agree/Disagree)
The prompt (in short): "Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar." Do you agree or disagree? This is an opinion (agree/disagree) essay: take a clear position and defend it throughout. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): "চিনিযুক্ত পণ্য স্বাস্থ্য-সমস্যা করে; কম খাওয়াতে এগুলো আরও দামি করা উচিত।" একমত না দ্বিমত? এটি মতামত (agree/disagree) রচনা: স্পষ্ট অবস্থান নিন ও সমর্থন করুন।

Agree (raise the price)
- Higher prices reduce consumption, as with tobacco taxes. দাম বাড়লে খাওয়া কমে।
- Cuts obesity, diabetes and healthcare costs. রোগ ও খরচ কমে।
- Tax revenue can fund health campaigns. রাজস্ব স্বাস্থ্য-প্রচারে।
Disagree (other solutions)
- It hurts low-income families most (unfair). গরিবের উপর বেশি চাপ।
- Education and labelling may work better. শিক্ষা ও লেবেলিং।
- People may simply switch to cheaper sugary items. সস্তা বিকল্পে ঝোঁক।
Choose one side and stay consistent. A strong partial-agreement line also works: raising prices helps, but it should be combined with education and clearer labelling to be fair and effective. Support each point with an example (the sugar tax on soft drinks in several countries). একটি পক্ষ নিন ও ধারাবাহিক থাকুন। আংশিক-একমতও শক্তিশালী: দাম বাড়ানো + শিক্ষা ও লেবেলিং একসাথে। উদাহরণ দিন (সফট ড্রিংকে চিনি-কর)।
