How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 17, Test 1, Speaking topics. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page gives you the topic of each part, an original model approach (how a Band 7+ candidate could organise ideas), and useful phrases and vocabulary — all in our own words.
Cambridge IELTS 17, Test 1, Speaking-এর টপিকের জন্য স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। Speaking-এ নির্দিষ্ট "উত্তর" নেই, তাই এখানে প্রতিটি অংশের বিষয়, একটি মৌলিক মডেল পদ্ধতি এবং দরকারি বাক্য ও শব্দভান্ডার দেওয়া হলো।
Don't memorise. These are ideas and language to practise with — not a script to recite. Examiners easily spot memorised answers, and they lower your score. Speak naturally about your own life.
মুখস্থ করবেন না। এগুলো অনুশীলনের ধারণা ও ভাষা — মুখস্থ স্ক্রিপ্ট নয়। পরীক্ষক মুখস্থ উত্তর সহজেই ধরেন।
Two golden habits: in Part 1, use Answer + Reason + Example. In Part 3, use Point → Explain → Example (P-E-E). Both stop one-word answers and show development.
দুটি অভ্যাস: Part 1-এ উত্তর + কারণ + উদাহরণ; Part 3-এ Point → Explain → Example।
Part 1: History
Part 1 asks simple, familiar questions to warm you up (4–5 minutes). Here the topic is history — what you studied in history lessons at school, whether you enjoyed studying history, how often you watch history programmes on TV now, and which period of history you would like to learn more about. Part 1-এ পরিচিত সহজ প্রশ্ন (৪–৫ মিনিট)। বিষয় ইতিহাস — স্কুলে কী পড়েছেন, ভালো লাগত কি না, এখন টিভিতে ইতিহাসের অনুষ্ঠান দেখেন কি না, কোন যুগ নিয়ে আরও জানতে চান।
Model approach (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
Give a direct answer, then extend with a reason or example. For "did you enjoy studying history?", say yes/no, give a reason (I loved the stories / I found the dates boring) and add a detail (a topic like the Liberation War of 1971, or ancient civilisations). This lets you use past tenses and opinion language naturally. সরাসরি উত্তর, তারপর কারণ/উদাহরণ। "ইতিহাস পড়তে ভালো লাগত?" — হ্যাঁ/না, কারণ (গল্প ভালো লাগত / তারিখ বিরক্তিকর), একটি বিষয় (১৯৭১-এর মুক্তিযুদ্ধ বা প্রাচীন সভ্যতা)।
Useful openers: "When I was at school, we mainly studied…", "To be honest, I found it… because…", "The period I'd love to learn more about is…" — then add a reason with because / since.
শুরুর বাক্যের পর because/since দিয়ে কারণ যোগ করুন।
Part 2: Describe the neighbourhood you lived in as a child
You get a cue card, one minute to prepare and make notes, then speak for 1–2 minutes. The card asks: where in your town/city the neighbourhood was, what kind of people lived there, what it was like to live there, and to explain whether you would like to live there in the future. কিউ কার্ড, ১ মিনিট প্রস্তুতি, তারপর ১–২ মিনিট কথা। কার্ডে: এলাকাটি কোথায়, কেমন মানুষ থাকত, থাকতে কেমন ছিল, ভবিষ্যতে সেখানে থাকতে চাইবেন কি না।
Planning in 1 minute (নোট কাঠামো)
Where
the area & town কোথায়
People
who lived there কেমন মানুষ
What it was like
atmosphere & memories কেমন ছিল
Future?
would you live there again ভবিষ্যতে?
Choose a real place you remember well — a residential para/mohalla, a village, or an apartment block. Describe the neighbours (friendly, close-knit), the atmosphere (quiet, busy, safe) and one strong memory (playing in the street, festivals). Use past tenses throughout, then switch to would for the final part about the future. এমন জায়গা বাছুন যা ভালো মনে আছে — পাড়া/মহল্লা, গ্রাম বা অ্যাপার্টমেন্ট। প্রতিবেশী, পরিবেশ ও একটি স্মৃতি বলুন। past tense ব্যবহার করুন; শেষে ভবিষ্যতের জন্য would।
Part 3: Neighbours; Facilities in Cities
Part 3 is a two-way discussion of more abstract questions linked to Part 2 (4–5 minutes). The themes are neighbours (what they can do to help each other, how well people know their neighbours, how important good neighbours are) and facilities in cities (which are most important, how small local shops differ from big city-centre shops, whether children should attend the nearest school). Part 3 হলো Part 2-এর সাথে সম্পর্কিত বিমূর্ত প্রশ্নের আলোচনা। বিষয়: প্রতিবেশী; শহরের সুযোগ-সুবিধা।
How to develop answers (উত্তর কীভাবে বাড়াবেন)
Use P-E-E: state a Point, Explain it, then give an Example. For "how important are good neighbours?", give your point, explain why (they help in emergencies, create a sense of community), then an example from Bangladesh (neighbours sharing food at Eid, helping during floods). Show both sides and don't be afraid to say "it depends". P-E-E: মত, ব্যাখ্যা, উদাহরণ। দুই দিক দেখান; "নির্ভর করে" বলা যায়।
