How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 17, Test 1, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 17, Test 1, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। Writing-এ একটিমাত্র সঠিক উত্তর নেই, তাই এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো ও পরিকল্পনা, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়। বইয়ের টাস্ক বা নমুনা রচনা হুবহু ছাপা হয়নি।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much — never let Task 1 eat its time.
সময়: Task 1-এ ~২০ মিনিট (১৫০+ শব্দ), Task 2-এ ~৪০ মিনিট (২৫০+ শব্দ)। Task 2-এর ওজন দ্বিগুণ।
Task 1: Maps of the Norbiton Industrial Area (Now vs Planned)
What the task shows: two maps of an industrial area in the town of Norbiton — the site "now" (full of factories around a roundabout, with a river and farmland to the north) and the "planned future development". Your job: select and report the main changes and make comparisons. টাস্কে যা আছে: Norbiton শহরের একটি শিল্প-এলাকার দুটি মানচিত্র — "এখন" (রাউন্ডঅ্যাবাউট ঘিরে কারখানা, উত্তরে নদী ও কৃষিজমি) ও "পরিকল্পিত ভবিষ্যৎ উন্নয়ন"। কাজ: মূল পরিবর্তন বেছে বর্ণনা ও তুলনা।

The key insight for your overview: the site changes from a purely industrial zone into a residential neighbourhood with services. The factories are replaced by housing, and new facilities appear — shops, a medical centre, a playground, a school — plus a bridge over the river to reach housing built on the former farmland. State this transformation without listing every building.
ওভারভিউয়ের মূল কথা: এলাকাটি নিছক শিল্প-এলাকা থেকে সেবা-সহ আবাসিক এলাকায় বদলায়। কারখানার বদলে বাসস্থান, নতুন দোকান, মেডিকেল সেন্টার, খেলার মাঠ, স্কুল ও নদীর উপর সেতু। প্রতিটি ভবন তালিকা না করে এই রূপান্তরই বলুন।
Common mistakes with map tasks: (1) no overview; (2) not using directions (to the north / east of the roundabout); (3) wrong tenses — use the present for "now" and the passive future for the plan (will be replaced, is going to be built). Use "whereas" to contrast the two maps.
মানচিত্র টাস্কে সাধারণ ভুল: ওভারভিউ না থাকা; দিক না ব্যবহার (উত্তরে/পূর্বে); ভুল কাল — "এখন"-এ present, পরিকল্পনায় passive future (will be replaced)। তুলনায় "whereas" ব্যবহার করুন।
Task 2: Is Taking Risks Worthwhile? (Agree/Disagree)
The prompt (in short): "It is important for people to take risks, both in their professional and personal lives." Do the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages? This is an advantages/disadvantages opinion essay: weigh both sides and give a clear judgement. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): "পেশাগত ও ব্যক্তিগত জীবনে ঝুঁকি নেওয়া গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।" ঝুঁকির সুবিধা কি অসুবিধার চেয়ে বেশি? এটি সুবিধা/অসুবিধা মতামত রচনা: দুই দিক ওজন করে স্পষ্ট রায় দিন।

Advantages
- Risk drives progress — new businesses, careers and inventions. ঝুঁকি অগ্রগতি আনে।
- Even failure teaches lessons and builds skills. ব্যর্থতাও শেখায়।
- Personal risks (moving abroad, new relationships) bring growth. ব্যক্তিগত ঝুঁকি বিকাশ আনে।
Disadvantages
- Failure can cause financial or emotional loss. আর্থিক/মানসিক ক্ষতি।
- Professional risks may affect colleagues and families too. অন্যদেরও প্রভাবিত করে।
- Reckless, unplanned risks are rarely worthwhile. অপরিকল্পিত ঝুঁকি ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ।
A strong line: the advantages generally outweigh the disadvantages when risks are calculated and well-judged — you gain from both success and the lessons of failure. Support each point with a specific example (starting a company, changing jobs, learning a difficult skill). শক্তিশালী অবস্থান: হিসেব-করা ঝুঁকির ক্ষেত্রে সুবিধা সাধারণত বেশি; সাফল্য ও ব্যর্থতা—দুই থেকেই লাভ। প্রতিটি পয়েন্টে নির্দিষ্ট উদাহরণ।
