How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 18, Test 3, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 18, Test 3, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়। বইয়ের টাস্ক বা নমুনা রচনা হুবহু ছাপা হয়নি।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Central Library Floor Plan (Then & Now)
What the task shows: two floor plans of a public library — 20 years ago and today. Your job: summarise the main changes and make comparisons. This is a map/plan comparison, not data. টাস্কে যা আছে: একটি পাবলিক লাইব্রেরির দুটি ফ্লোর-প্ল্যান — ২০ বছর আগে ও এখন। কাজ: মূল পরিবর্তন ও তুলনা লেখা। এটি মানচিত্র-তুলনা, তথ্য নয়।

The key insight for your overview: the library was modernised — the old reading room and enquiry desk gave way to a computer room and a café, self-service machines and event spaces (storytelling, a lecture room) appeared, and CDs/videos were replaced by children's fiction. Stating this overall shift (traditional → modern, self-service & social) secures Band 6+.
ওভারভিউয়ের মূল কথা: লাইব্রেরিটি আধুনিক হয়েছে — পুরনো রিডিং রুম ও এনকোয়ারি ডেস্কের বদলে কম্পিউটার রুম ও ক্যাফে, সেল্ফ-সার্ভিস মেশিন ও অনুষ্ঠান-স্থান এসেছে। এই সামগ্রিক পরিবর্তন বললে Band 6+।
Common mistakes: (1) no overview; (2) listing every room with no comparison; (3) wrong tense. Use the past for "20 years ago" (there was…) and present for now (there is…), plus change verbs (was replaced by, has been converted into). Use clear location language (in the top-left corner, opposite the entrance).
সাধারণ ভুল: ওভারভিউ না থাকা; তুলনা ছাড়া তালিকা; কাল ভুল। অতীত (there was) ও বর্তমান (there is), সাথে পরিবর্তন-ক্রিয়া (was replaced by) ও অবস্থান-ভাষা ব্যবহার করুন।
Task 2: Rural-to-City Migration (Positive or Negative?)
The prompt (in short): in many countries rural people are moving to cities, so the countryside population is decreasing. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development? This is a positive/negative (opinion) essay: take a clear position (positive, negative, or mixed) and cover both the city side and the countryside side. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): অনেক দেশে গ্রামের মানুষ শহরে যাচ্ছে, তাই গ্রামের জনসংখ্যা কমছে। এটি ইতিবাচক না নেতিবাচক? স্পষ্ট অবস্থান নিন এবং শহর ও গ্রাম দুই দিকই দেখান।

- City overcrowding, slums and traffic. শহরে ভিড়, বস্তি, যানজট।
- Countryside loses workers and services. গ্রামে কর্মী ও সেবা হারায়।
- Farmland and traditions decline. কৃষিজমি ও ঐতিহ্য কমে।
Positive
- More jobs, education and healthcare in cities. শহরে কাজ, শিক্ষা, চিকিৎসা।
- Higher incomes lift families out of poverty. আয় বাড়ায় দারিদ্র্য কমে।
- Money sent home can help rural areas. টাকা পাঠিয়ে গ্রামকে সাহায্য।
Bangladesh gives strong examples — migration to Dhaka for garment jobs, remittances supporting villages, but also traffic and slum pressure. A "mostly negative but with clear benefits" position is easy to argue. Support each point with an example. বাংলাদেশের উদাহরণ শক্তিশালী — ঢাকায় গার্মেন্টস কাজ, গ্রামে টাকা পাঠানো, কিন্তু যানজট ও বস্তি। উদাহরণ দিন।
