How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 18, Test 4, Speaking topics. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page gives you the topic of each part, an original model approach, and useful phrases and vocabulary — all in our own words.
Cambridge IELTS 18, Test 4, Speaking-এর টপিকের জন্য স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে প্রতিটি অংশের বিষয়, একটি মৌলিক মডেল পদ্ধতি এবং দরকারি বাক্য ও শব্দভান্ডার দেওয়া হলো।
Don't memorise. These are ideas and language to practise with — not a script to recite. Examiners easily spot memorised answers, and they lower your score. Speak naturally about your own life.
মুখস্থ করবেন না। এগুলো অনুশীলনের ধারণা ও ভাষা — মুখস্থ স্ক্রিপ্ট নয়।
Two golden habits: in Part 1, use Answer + Reason + Example. In Part 3, use Point → Explain → Example (P-E-E).
দুটি অভ্যাস: Part 1-এ উত্তর + কারণ + উদাহরণ; Part 3-এ Point → Explain → Example।
Part 1: Sleep
Part 1 asks simple, familiar questions to warm you up (4–5 minutes). Here the topic is sleep — how many hours you usually sleep, whether you sometimes sleep during the day, what you do if you can't get to sleep, and whether you remember your dreams. Part 1-এ পরিচিত সহজ প্রশ্ন (৪–৫ মিনিট)। বিষয় ঘুম — কত ঘণ্টা ঘুমান, দিনে ঘুমান কি না, ঘুম না এলে কী করেন, স্বপ্ন মনে থাকে কি না।
Model approach (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
Give a direct answer, then extend with a reason or example. For "what do you do if you can't sleep?", name what you do (read, listen to music, avoid the phone), say why it helps, and add a small detail. This lets you use everyday habit vocabulary and present-simple naturally. সরাসরি উত্তর, তারপর কারণ/উদাহরণ। "ঘুম না এলে কী করেন?" — কী করেন (পড়া, গান, ফোন এড়ানো), কেন সাহায্য করে, একটি বিবরণ।
Useful openers: "I usually get about … hours", "On weekdays … but at the weekend…", "If I can't sleep, I tend to…" — then a reason with because / since.
শুরুর বাক্যের পর because/since দিয়ে কারণ যোগ করুন।
Part 2: Describe a time when you met someone who you became good friends with
You get a cue card, one minute to prepare and make notes, then speak for 1–2 minutes. The card asks: who you met, when and where you met this person, what you thought about them at first, and to explain why you became good friends. কিউ কার্ড, ১ মিনিট প্রস্তুতি, তারপর ১–২ মিনিট কথা। কার্ডে: কার সাথে দেখা, কখন ও কোথায়, প্রথমে কী ভেবেছিলেন, কেন ভালো বন্ধু হলেন।
Planning in 1 minute (নোট কাঠামো)
Who
the person কে
When/Where
the first meeting কখন/কোথায়
First impression
what you thought প্রথম ধারণা
Why friends
shared interests/values কেন বন্ধু
Good choices: a classmate on your first day of school or university, a colleague at a new job, a neighbour, or someone you met at a wedding or on a trip. Use past tenses, and make the last point (why you became close) the richest — shared interests, trust, memorable moments. ভালো উদাহরণ: স্কুল/বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রথম দিনের সহপাঠী, নতুন সহকর্মী, প্রতিবেশী, বিয়ে/ভ্রমণে পরিচয়। অতীত কালে; শেষ পয়েন্ট সবচেয়ে বড়।
Part 3: Friends at School; Making New Friends
Part 3 is a two-way discussion of more abstract questions linked to Part 2 (4–5 minutes). The themes are friends at school (how important many friends are, whether parents should influence their children's friends, why children change friends as they grow) and making new friends (good ways to make friends in a new town, disadvantages of online friends, whether it gets harder with age). Part 3 হলো Part 2-এর সাথে সম্পর্কিত বিমূর্ত প্রশ্নের আলোচনা। বিষয়: স্কুলের বন্ধু; নতুন বন্ধু বানানো।
How to develop answers (উত্তর কীভাবে বাড়াবেন)
Use P-E-E: state a Point, Explain it, then give an Example. For "is it harder to make friends as you get older?", give your point, explain why (busier lives, fewer new settings), then an example (work vs student life). Compare younger and older people, or online vs face-to-face. P-E-E ব্যবহার করুন: মত, ব্যাখ্যা, উদাহরণ। তরুণ-বৃদ্ধ বা অনলাইন-সরাসরি তুলনা করুন।
