How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 19, Test 2, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 19, Test 2, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.
সময়: Task 1-এ ~২০ মিনিট, Task 2-এ ~৪০ মিনিট। Task 2-এর ওজন দ্বিগুণ।
Task 1: Porth Harbour — 2000 vs Today (Maps)
What the task shows: two maps of Porth Harbour, one in 2000 and one today. Your job is to compare them, reporting what has changed and what has stayed the same. A map task is about location and change, not numbers. টাস্কে যা আছে: Porth Harbour-এর দুটি মানচিত্র (২০০০ ও আজ)। কাজ: তুলনা করে কী বদলেছে ও কী একই আছে বলা। মানচিত্র-টাস্ক অবস্থান ও পরিবর্তন নিয়ে, সংখ্যা নয়।

Key insight for the overview: the changes make the harbour more focused on visitors/tourism — the disused castle is replaced by a hotel, cafés and shops appear, and facilities expand. State this big picture without listing details. Use the compass (north-west, to the east…) and the passive for changes ("a hotel was built"). ওভারভিউয়ের মূল কথা: পরিবর্তনগুলো পর্যটনমুখী — দুর্গের বদলে হোটেল, ক্যাফে-দোকান, সুবিধা বৃদ্ধি। কম্পাস ও passive ব্যবহার করুন।
Common mistakes: (1) no overview; (2) describing map 1 fully then map 2 fully (compare instead); (3) forgetting directions. Always link the two maps feature by feature. সাধারণ ভুল: ওভারভিউ না থাকা; দুই মানচিত্র আলাদা বর্ণনা; দিক ভুলে যাওয়া।
Task 2: A shorter working week and a longer weekend (Agree/Disagree)
The prompt (in short): the working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend — do you agree or disagree? This is an opinion essay: take a clear position and defend it throughout. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): কর্মসপ্তাহ ছোট ও সপ্তাহান্ত বড় হওয়া উচিত — একমত না দ্বিমত? মতামত রচনা: স্পষ্ট অবস্থান ধরে রাখুন।

Agree (shorter week)
- Rest boosts productivity and mental health. বিশ্রামে উৎপাদনশীলতা ও মানসিক স্বাস্থ্য বাড়ে।
- More time for family and hobbies. পরিবার ও শখের সময়।
- Trials show output can stay the same. পরীক্ষায় উৎপাদন একই থাকে।
Disagree / caution
- Businesses may produce less or need more staff. উৎপাদন কমতে পারে।
- Some services must run every day. কিছু সেবা প্রতিদিন লাগে।
- Not practical for all industries/economies. সব শিল্পের জন্য নয়।
For an agree/disagree essay you do not need to argue both sides equally — pick a side and give strong reasons. A partial agreement (e.g. "yes for office work, but not for essential services") can also score well if argued clearly. এই ধরনে দুই দিক সমানভাবে দেখাতে হয় না — একটি পক্ষ নিয়ে জোরালো যুক্তি দিন।
