A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 19, Test 3, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.

Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: How Ethanol (Biofuel) Is Produced (Process Diagram)
What the task shows: a cyclical diagram of how the biofuel ethanol is produced — plants grow (using sunlight + CO₂), are harvested, pre-processed into cellulose, then processed into sugars; microbes are added to make ethanol, which fuels transport, releasing CO₂ that plants reuse. Your job: describe the stages of the process. টাস্কে যা আছে: ethanol উৎপাদনের চক্রাকার প্রক্রিয়া — গাছ জন্মায়, কাটা হয়, cellulose-এ পরিণত হয়, sugar হয়; microbe যোগে ethanol তৈরি, যা যানবাহন চালায়। কাজ: ধাপগুলো বর্ণনা।

Key insight for a process: say how many stages there are and whether it is cyclical (the CO₂ released by vehicles is reused by the plants, so it begins again). Use the passive voice and sequence words. State this in your overview without listing every step. প্রক্রিয়ার মূল কথা: কয়টি ধাপ ও এটি চক্রাকার কি না বলুন। passive voice ও ক্রম-শব্দ ব্যবহার করুন।
Common mistakes: (1) no overview; (2) using "I" or active voice throughout ("they grow plants") — prefer the passive ("plants are grown"); (3) missing the cyclical link at the end. Follow the arrows in order. সাধারণ ভুল: ওভারভিউ না থাকা; active voice; শেষের চক্র-সংযোগ বাদ দেওয়া।
Task 2: Should everyone save money for the future? (To what extent do you agree?)
The prompt (in short): it is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future — to what extent do you agree or disagree? This is an opinion essay: take a position (fully agree, mostly agree, partly agree) and defend it. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): তরুণসহ সবার ভবিষ্যতের জন্য টাকা সঞ্চয় করা জরুরি — কতটা একমত? মতামত রচনা: অবস্থান নিয়ে ধরে রাখুন।

Agree (save)
- Security against emergencies and old age. জরুরি অবস্থা ও বার্ধক্যে নিরাপত্তা।
- Builds good financial habits early. ভালো অভ্যাস তৈরি।
- Enables big goals (house, education). বড় লক্ষ্য পূরণ।
Disagree / limit
- Some earn too little to save. আয় কম, সঞ্চয় কঠিন।
- Youth should also enjoy the present / invest in experiences. বর্তমানও উপভোগ্য।
- Spending on skills can be better than saving. দক্ষতায় ব্যয় ভালো হতে পারে।
"To what extent" questions reward a clear, measured stance — e.g. "I largely agree, though saving should be balanced with spending on education and enjoyment." Support each point with a specific example. "To what extent" প্রশ্নে স্পষ্ট, পরিমিত অবস্থান ভালো স্কোর করে; উদাহরণ দিন।
