A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 2, Test 2, Speaking interview. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page explains the format, the information-gap task, and useful language — all in our own words.

Note the older format. Cambridge IELTS 2 uses the earlier Speaking interview (one examiner, five phases, including a task where you ask the questions). Today's test uses Parts 1–2–3 instead, but this task is superb practice for fluency and question forms.

The Older Speaking Interview (5 Phases)
The interview lasts about 11–15 minutes with one examiner and moves through five phases. এক পরীক্ষকের সঙ্গে ~১১–১৫ মিনিট, পাঁচ ধাপে।

Phase 3 is the special one: the examiner gives you a cue card with a topic and a list of points, and you must ask the examiner questions to find out the information. This page focuses on that task. ৩নং ধাপ বিশেষ: কিউ কার্ডে টপিক ও পয়েন্ট থাকে, আর আপনি প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য বের করেন।
Information-Gap Task: A Concert
Your task: find out as much as you can about a concert. You are given a topic and a short list of points; you must turn each point into a question and ask the examiner. আপনার কাজ: একটি কনসার্ট সম্পর্কে যতটা সম্ভব জানুন। প্রতিটি পয়েন্টকে প্রশ্নে রূপ দিয়ে পরীক্ষককে জিজ্ঞাসা করুন।
Points you might ask about (নমুনা পয়েন্ট)
- Who is performing. কারা গাইছে।
- Where the concert is held. কোথায়।
- Date and time. তারিখ ও সময়।
- Ticket price and how to book. টিকিটের দাম ও বুকিং।
- Type of music / programme. সংগীতের ধরন।
Cover every point on the card, ask full, correct questions, and react to the answers ("That sounds great — and…?") so it feels like a real conversation. কার্ডের প্রতিটি পয়েন্ট ছুঁয়ে যান, সম্পূর্ণ সঠিক প্রশ্ন করুন, উত্তরে প্রতিক্রিয়া দিন।
Forming Good Questions (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
The examiner is judging your question grammar here, so form each question carefully. Mix Wh- questions, yes/no questions and polite indirect questions. এখানে পরীক্ষক আপনার প্রশ্নের ব্যাকরণ দেখেন—যত্ন করে গঠন করুন।

Common error: word order. Say "Where is the concert held?" not "Where the concert is held?". Keep auxiliaries in the right place. সাধারণ ভুল: শব্দক্রম। "Where is…?" ঠিক; "Where the concert is…?" ভুল।
