A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 2, Test 3, Speaking interview. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page explains the format, the information-gap task, and useful language — all in our own words.

Note the older format. Cambridge IELTS 2 uses the earlier Speaking interview (one examiner, five phases, including a task where you ask the questions). Today's test uses Parts 1–2–3 instead, but this task is superb practice for fluency and question forms.

The Older Speaking Interview (5 Phases)
The interview lasts about 11–15 minutes with one examiner and moves through five phases. এক পরীক্ষকের সঙ্গে ~১১–১৫ মিনিট, পাঁচ ধাপে।

Phase 3 is the special one: the examiner gives you a cue card with a topic and a list of points, and you must ask the examiner questions to find out the information. This page focuses on that task. ৩নং ধাপ বিশেষ: কিউ কার্ডে টপিক ও পয়েন্ট থাকে, আর আপনি প্রশ্ন করে তথ্য বের করেন।
Information-Gap Task: An Environmental Group
Your task: you are interested in joining a students' environmental group at the university, so you must find out as much as you can about it. Turn each point into a question and ask the examiner. আপনার কাজ: বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একটি শিক্ষার্থী পরিবেশ দল-এ যোগ দিতে চান, তাই এটি সম্পর্কে যতটা সম্ভব জানুন। প্রতিটি পয়েন্টকে প্রশ্নে রূপ দিন।
Points to ask about (পয়েন্ট)
- The name of the group. দলের নাম।
- What action they take. কী কাজ করে।
- Cost of membership. সদস্যপদের খরচ।
- What members have to do. সদস্যদের করণীয়।
- Number of members. সদস্য সংখ্যা।
- When it was founded. কবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত।
In the book's example the group is called "Green Action": it plants trees and clears rubbish, costs about $10 / £5 a year, expects members to join two events a year, has around 4,500 members and was founded in 1996. Your job is to ask the questions that would uncover facts like these. বইয়ের উদাহরণে দলটির নাম "Green Action": গাছ লাগায়, আবর্জনা পরিষ্কার করে, বছরে ~$10/£5, বছরে দুটি ইভেন্ট, ~৪,৫০০ সদস্য, ১৯৯৬-এ প্রতিষ্ঠিত। আপনার কাজ এমন তথ্য বের করার প্রশ্ন করা।
Forming Good Questions (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
The examiner is judging your question grammar here, so form each question carefully. Mix Wh- questions, yes/no questions and polite indirect questions. এখানে পরীক্ষক আপনার প্রশ্নের ব্যাকরণ দেখেন—যত্ন করে গঠন করুন।

Common error: word order. Say "How much does it cost?" not "How much it costs?". Use "was… set up / founded" for the past passive. সাধারণ ভুল: শব্দক্রম। অতীতে "was… set up/founded" ব্যবহার করুন।
