A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 20, Test 3, Writing: task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 20, Test 3, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন: টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস।
Timing: ~20 min Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min Task 2 (250+ words).

Task 1: Library Data (Multiple Charts)
What the task shows: several charts about a public library — a pie chart of members by age group, a table of the loans made in each category (children's/adult fiction, non-fiction, DVDs, etc.), and a bar chart of the total number of loans over about ten years. Your job: select and report the main features and compare. টাস্কে যা আছে: একটি গ্রন্থাগার সম্পর্কে কয়েকটি চার্ট — বয়স অনুযায়ী সদস্যের pie chart, বিভাগ অনুযায়ী ধারের টেবিল, এবং ১০ বছরে মোট ধারের bar chart। কাজ: মূল বৈশিষ্ট্য বেছে বর্ণনা ও তুলনা।

With two or three charts, the overview must contain a main point from EACH. For example: adults form the largest member group; fiction is the most-borrowed category; and total loans rose overall across the period. Don't describe one chart and forget the others. একাধিক চার্ট থাকলে ওভারভিউয়ে প্রতিটি থেকে একটি মূল কথা রাখুন। একটি চার্ট বর্ণনা করে বাকিগুলো ভুলবেন না।
Common mistakes: only 150 words is not enough for three charts — be selective, report the biggest figures and the clear trend, and use past tenses for the year-by-year data. Combine similar categories rather than listing every one. সাধারণ ভুল: তিন চার্টে বেছে নিন, বড় সংখ্যা ও স্পষ্ট প্রবণতা দিন; বছরভিত্তিক তথ্যে অতীত কাল।
Task 2: Flying Less (Outweigh Essay)
The prompt (in short): some people are choosing to fly less or to stop flying — do the environmental benefits of this outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and businesses? This is an "outweigh" opinion essay: weigh the two sides and state which is greater. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): কেউ কম উড়ছে/ওড়া বন্ধ করছে — এর পরিবেশগত সুবিধা কি ব্যক্তি ও ব্যবসার অসুবিধার চেয়ে বেশি? এটি "outweigh" রচনা: দুই দিক ওজন করে কোনটি বড় বলুন।

Environmental benefits
- Lower carbon emissions and air pollution. কম নির্গমন।
- Encourages cleaner transport (trains). পরিচ্ছন্ন পরিবহন।
- Slows the pace of climate change. জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন ধীর।
Disadvantages
- Longer, costlier journeys for individuals. দীর্ঘ, ব্যয়বহুল ভ্রমণ।
- Harder for businesses to meet and trade. ব্যবসার অসুবিধা।
- Harm to tourism and airline jobs. পর্যটন ও চাকরির ক্ষতি।
Take a clear side. In an "outweigh" essay you must state which side is greater in your introduction and conclusion, and keep the essay leaning that way. Sitting on the fence lowers Task Response. স্পষ্ট পক্ষ নিন। ভূমিকা ও উপসংহারে কোন দিক বড় বলুন; নিরপেক্ষ থাকলে Task Response কমে।
