A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 20, Test 4, Writing: task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 20, Test 4, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন: টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস।
Timing: ~20 min Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min Task 2 (250+ words).

Task 1: How Bamboo Fabric is Made (Process)
What the task shows: a diagram of the stages in turning bamboo plants into fabric — from planting and harvesting, through cutting, crushing, filtering and softening the fibres, to spinning yarn and weaving it into cloth for products. Your job: describe the main stages of the process. টাস্কে যা আছে: বাঁশ থেকে কাপড় তৈরির ধাপের ডায়াগ্রাম — রোপণ ও কাটা থেকে কেটে, গুঁড়ো করে, ছেঁকে, নরম করে, সুতা কেটে বুনন পর্যন্ত। কাজ: প্রক্রিয়ার মূল ধাপ বর্ণনা।

Two things score well in a process: (1) a good overview that says how many stages there are and names the start (bamboo plants) and end (finished fabric/clothing); (2) the passive voice and sequencers throughout — First, the bamboo is harvested… Next, the strips are crushed…. প্রসেসে ভালো স্কোর: শুরু ও শেষসহ ভালো ওভারভিউ; এবং সারা লেখায় passive voice ও ক্রম-শব্দ।
Common mistakes: an overview that only says "there are 8 stages" — instead summarise what the process achieves. Also, don't start every sentence with "Then" — vary sequencers (Following this, Once…, After the fibres have been softened…). সাধারণ ভুল: শুধু "৮টি ধাপ" নয় — প্রক্রিয়া কী অর্জন করে বলুন; ক্রম-শব্দে বৈচিত্র্য আনুন।
Task 2: Global Fashion (Two-Part Question)
The prompt (in short): the way people dress is increasingly shaped by global fashion trends — how has global fashion become such a strong influence, and is this a positive or negative development? Answer both parts. প্রশ্ন (সংক্ষেপে): মানুষের পোশাক ক্রমশ বৈশ্বিক ফ্যাশন-ট্রেন্ডে প্রভাবিত — এটি এত শক্তিশালী প্রভাব কীভাবে হলো, এবং এটি ইতিবাচক না নেতিবাচক? দুটিরই উত্তর দিন।

Why so influential
- Social media & celebrities spread styles fast. সোশ্যাল মিডিয়া ও তারকা।
- Global brands and cheap online shopping. বৈশ্বিক ব্র্যান্ড, অনলাইন কেনা।
- A desire to fit in and look modern. মানানসই দেখাতে চাওয়া।
Positive vs negative
- + Self-expression, choice, connection. আত্মপ্রকাশ ও পছন্দ।
- – Pressure, cost, loss of local identity. চাপ, খরচ, স্থানীয় পরিচয় হারানো।
- – Fast fashion harms the environment. পরিবেশের ক্ষতি।
For "positive or negative", commit to a view (it can be "mostly positive but with drawbacks"). Answer the "how" question with real causes, and support the "positive/negative" question with examples. "ভালো না খারাপ"-এ একটি অবস্থান নিন (যেমন "বেশিরভাগ ভালো, তবে অসুবিধাসহ"); উদাহরণ দিন।
