How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 4, Test 2, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 4, Test 2, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Electricity Demand & Home Use (Graph + Pie Chart)
What the task shows: two visuals. A line graph compares the demand for electricity in England over a typical winter day and a typical summer day (units against the 24 hours), and a pie chart shows how electricity is used in an average English home (heating rooms/water is the largest share, then ovens/kettles/washing machines, lighting/TV/radio, and appliances). Summarise both and make comparisons; no opinions. টাস্কে যা আছে: দুটি চিত্র। একটি লাইন গ্রাফ ইংল্যান্ডে সাধারণ শীত ও গ্রীষ্মের দিনে ২৪ ঘণ্টার বিদ্যুৎ চাহিদা তুলনা করে; একটি পাই চার্ট গড় বাড়িতে বিদ্যুতের ব্যবহার দেখায় (ঘর/পানি গরম সবচেয়ে বেশি)। দুটোই সারসংক্ষেপ ও তুলনা; মত নয়।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Winter demand is far higher than summer at every hour. শীতে চাহিদা বেশি।
- Both peak in the evening; winter also rises in early morning. সন্ধ্যায় শীর্ষ।
- Pie chart: heating dominates home use (over half). গরম করা—অর্ধেকের বেশি।
Overview to aim for: electricity demand is much greater in winter and peaks in the evening in both seasons, while at home most electricity is used for heating. Cover both visuals in the overview. ওভারভিউ: শীতে চাহিদা অনেক বেশি ও সন্ধ্যায় শীর্ষ; বাড়িতে বেশির ভাগ বিদ্যুৎ গরম করায় ব্যয় হয়। দুই চিত্রই ছুঁয়ে যান।
Tips: describe the graph's shape (peaks/troughs by time of day) and the pie's proportions separately, then link them if useful. গ্রাফের আকৃতি ও পাইয়ের অনুপাত আলাদা করে বলুন।
Task 2: Happiness — Definition and Factors
The prompt (in short): happiness is considered very important in life. Why is it difficult to define? and What factors are important in achieving happiness? A two-part / direct-question essay: you must answer both questions. প্রশ্ন: সুখ জীবনে খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এটি সংজ্ঞায়িত করা কঠিন কেন? আর সুখ অর্জনে কোন বিষয়গুলো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ? দুই-অংশের প্রশ্ন—দুটোরই উত্তর দিন।

Why hard to define
- It is personal — means different things to different people. ব্যক্তিভেদে ভিন্ন।
- It is a feeling, not easily measured. অনুভূতি, মাপা কঠিন।
- It changes with age and culture. বয়স ও সংস্কৃতিভেদে বদলায়।
Factors that help
- Good health and basic security. স্বাস্থ্য ও নিরাপত্তা।
- Close family and friendships. পরিবার ও বন্ধু।
- Meaningful work and contentment, not just money. অর্থপূর্ণ কাজ ও তৃপ্তি।
Give roughly equal space to both questions. Use examples from life, and note that while money helps meet needs, relationships and health matter more for lasting happiness. দুই প্রশ্নে সমান জোর দিন; টাকা প্রয়োজন মেটায়, তবে সম্পর্ক ও স্বাস্থ্য স্থায়ী সুখে বেশি জরুরি।
