How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 4, Test 4, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 4, Test 4, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Travel to/from the UK & Countries Visited (Graph + Bar Chart)
What the task shows: two visuals. A line graph gives information about travel to and from the UK from 1979 to 1999 (visits abroad by UK residents and visits to the UK by overseas residents), and a bar chart shows the most popular countries for UK residents to visit in 1999 (France, Spain, the USA, Greece and Turkey). Summarise both and make comparisons; no opinions. টাস্কে যা আছে: দুটি চিত্র। একটি লাইন গ্রাফ ১৯৭৯–১৯৯৯-এ যুক্তরাজ্যে/থেকে ভ্রমণ দেখায় (UK বাসিন্দাদের বিদেশ ভ্রমণ ও বিদেশিদের UK ভ্রমণ); একটি বার চার্ট ১৯৯৯-এ UK বাসিন্দাদের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় গন্তব্য দেখায় (France, Spain, USA, Greece, Turkey)। দুটোই সারসংক্ষেপ ও তুলনা; মত নয়।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Both trends rose, but visits abroad by UK residents grew far faster. দুটোই বাড়ে; UK বাসিন্দাদের বিদেশযাত্রা দ্রুত।
- A widening gap opened up after the mid-1980s. ব্যবধান বেড়েছে।
- France was the top destination, followed by Spain. France শীর্ষে, তারপর Spain।
Overview to aim for: overall travel in both directions increased over the 20 years, but UK residents' trips abroad rose the most, and by 1999 France and Spain were the favourite destinations. Cover both visuals. ওভারভিউ: দুই দিকেই ভ্রমণ বেড়েছে, তবে UK বাসিন্দাদের বিদেশযাত্রা সবচেয়ে বেশি; ১৯৯৯-এ France ও Spain শীর্ষে। দুই চিত্রই ছুঁয়ে যান।
Tips: use past tenses (data ends in 1999), quote start/end figures and the crossover, and rank the top countries. অতীত কাল; শুরু/শেষ সংখ্যা; দেশগুলোর ক্রম।
Task 2: Problems with Student Behaviour
The prompt (in short): in many countries schools have severe problems with student behaviour. What do you think are the causes? and What solutions can you suggest? A causes & solutions essay: answer both parts. প্রশ্ন: অনেক দেশে স্কুলে শিক্ষার্থীদের আচরণ নিয়ে গুরুতর সমস্যা। কারণ কী বলে মনে করেন? আর কী সমাধান দিতে পারেন? কারণ ও সমাধান রচনা—দুটোরই উত্তর দিন।

Causes
- Lack of discipline at home; poor role models. ঘরে শৃঙ্খলার অভাব।
- Large classes; boring or irrelevant lessons. বড় শ্রেণি; একঘেয়ে পাঠ।
- Peer pressure and social-media influence. সঙ্গীদল ও সোশ্যাল মিডিয়া।
Solutions
- Clear rules and consistent consequences. স্পষ্ট নিয়ম ও ফল।
- Engaging teaching and smaller classes. আকর্ষণীয় পাঠ; ছোট শ্রেণি।
- Close home–school cooperation and counselling. ঘর-স্কুল সহযোগিতা ও কাউন্সেলিং।
Match each solution to a cause so your essay feels joined-up. Give two or three developed causes and matching solutions rather than a long list. প্রতিটি সমাধানকে কারণের সাথে মেলান; ২–৩টি বিস্তারিত পয়েন্ট দিন, লম্বা তালিকা নয়।
