How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for the Cambridge IELTS 5, Test 4, Speaking topics. Speaking has no fixed "answers", so this page gives the topic of each part, an original model approach, and useful phrases and vocabulary — all in our own words.

Don't memorise. These are ideas and language to practise with — not a script. Speak naturally about your own life.

Part 1: Clothes
Part 1 asks simple, familiar questions (4–5 minutes). The topic is clothes — how important clothes and fashion are to you, what kind of clothes you dislike, how different the clothes you wear now are from those you wore ten years ago, and what you think the clothes we wear say about us. Part 1-এ পরিচিত সহজ প্রশ্ন। বিষয় পোশাক — পোশাক ও ফ্যাশন আপনার কাছে কতটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, কোন ধরনের পোশাক অপছন্দ, দশ বছর আগের তুলনায় এখনকার পোশাক কতটা ভিন্ন, পোশাক আমাদের সম্পর্কে কী বলে।
Model approach (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
Give a direct answer, then a reason and a small detail. Several prompts ask "why", so always add a reason and a comparison with the past. Keep answers to two or three sentences. উত্তর + কারণ + উদাহরণ; অতীতের সঙ্গে তুলনা; ২–৩ বাক্য।
Useful openers: "Clothes aren't hugely important to me, but…", "I tend to avoid… because…", "Ten years ago I used to wear…"

Part 2: Describe a Festival Important in Your Country
You get a cue card, one minute to prepare, then speak for 1–2 minutes. The card asks: when the festival occurs, what you did during it, what you like or dislike about it, and to explain why this festival is important. কিউ কার্ড, ১ মিনিট প্রস্তুতি, ১–২ মিনিট। বলুন উৎসবটি কখন হয়, তখন আপনি কী করেছিলেন, কী পছন্দ/অপছন্দ, এবং কেন এটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

Choose a real festival — Eid, Pohela Boishakh, Durga Puja or a national day — and describe when it happens, what you did (food, family, customs), what you enjoy, and its cultural or religious importance. Use past tenses for what you did. সত্যিকার উৎসব বাছুন (ঈদ, পহেলা বৈশাখ, দুর্গাপূজা, জাতীয় দিবস); কখন হয়, কী করেছিলেন (খাবার, পরিবার, রীতি), কী উপভোগ করেন, ও এর তাৎপর্য। অতীত কাল ব্যবহার করুন।
Part 3: The Purpose of Festivals & Festivals in the Media
Part 3 is a two-way discussion linked to Part 2 (4–5 minutes). The themes are the purpose of festivals and celebrations (why festivals are important in the working year, whether their original meaning is often lost, and whether new festivals will appear) and festivals and the media (the role the media plays, whether watching festivals on TV is good or bad, and how globalisation may affect them). Part 3: উৎসবের উদ্দেশ্য ও গণমাধ্যমে উৎসব।
How to develop answers (উত্তর কীভাবে বাড়াবেন)
Use P-E-E: Point, Explain, Example. For "is the original meaning of festivals being lost?", give a point, explain why, then an example. Show both sides and hedge (it depends…, generally) for opinion questions. P-E-E: মত, ব্যাখ্যা, উদাহরণ; দুই দিক ও hedging।
