A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 6, Test 2, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 6, Test 2, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Distance Travelled by Mode of Travel (Table)
What the task shows: a table giving the average distance in miles travelled per person per year in England by different modes of travel — walking, bicycle, car, local bus, long-distance bus, train, taxi, "other" and all modes — comparing 1985 and 2000. Summarise the main features and make comparisons; no opinions. টাস্কে যা আছে: ইংল্যান্ডে বিভিন্ন পরিবহনে মাথাপিছু বছরে গড় মাইল দেখানো একটি টেবিল — walking, bicycle, car, local bus, long-distance bus, train, taxi, other ও all modes; ১৯৮৫ বনাম ২০০০। মূল বৈশিষ্ট্য ও তুলনা; মত নয়।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Car dominated in both years and rose the most (3,199 → 4,806 miles). গাড়ি সর্বাধিক ও সবচেয়ে বেশি বেড়েছে।
- Total travel rose from 4,740 to 6,475 miles per person. মোট যাত্রা বেড়েছে।
- Some modes fell: walking, bicycle and local bus all dropped; long-distance bus, train, taxi and "other" grew. কিছু কমেছে, কিছু বেড়েছে।
Overview to aim for: people travelled further overall in 2000 than in 1985, mainly by car, while active/local modes (walking, cycling, local buses) declined. Group the rising modes and the falling modes rather than listing every number. ওভারভিউ: ২০০০-এ মানুষ বেশি দূরত্ব ভ্রমণ করেছে, প্রধানত গাড়িতে; হাঁটা, সাইকেল, লোকাল বাস কমেছে। বাড়া ও কমা মোডগুলো গ্রুপ করুন।
Tips: quote a few key figures, use change language (rose, fell, more than doubled — taxi 13 → 42), and don't describe every row. মূল সংখ্যা; পরিবর্তনের ভাষা; প্রতিটি সারি নয়।
Task 2: Should Top Sportspeople Earn So Much?
The prompt (in short): successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified, while others think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. A discussion (both views + opinion) essay. প্রশ্ন: সফল ক্রীড়াবিদরা অন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পেশার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি আয় করে। কেউ বলে এটি ন্যায্য, কেউ বলে অন্যায্য। দুই মত আলোচনা ও নিজের মত।

Justified
- Short careers; talent is rare. সংক্ষিপ্ত ক্যারিয়ার; বিরল প্রতিভা।
- They generate huge revenue & entertainment. বিপুল আয় ও বিনোদন।
- Market pays what fans and sponsors will. বাজার নির্ধারিত।
Unfair
- Doctors, teachers do vital work for less. ডাক্তার/শিক্ষক কম পান।
- Sport isn't essential to society. খেলা অপরিহার্য নয়।
- Widens inequality; sets poor values. বৈষম্য বাড়ায়।
A balanced answer sees both sides: market forces and short careers explain high pay, but it seems unfair next to essential professions — so you might argue pay is understandable yet society should value key workers more. Give a clear opinion. ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ উত্তর: বাজার ও সংক্ষিপ্ত ক্যারিয়ার উচ্চ আয় ব্যাখ্যা করে, তবু অপরিহার্য পেশার পাশে তা অন্যায্য মনে হয়। স্পষ্ট মত দিন।
