A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 6, Test 3, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 6, Test 3, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Life Cycle of the Silkworm + Silk Production (Process)
What the task shows: two diagrams. The first is the life cycle of the silkworm (eggs → larva feeding on mulberry leaves → cocoon of silk thread → moth), with time labels for each stage. The second shows the stages in producing silk cloth: select cocoons → boil → unwind the thread (300–900 m) → twist → weave and dye. Describe both processes — no opinions. টাস্কে যা আছে: দুটি চিত্র। প্রথম — রেশমপোকার জীবনচক্র (ডিম → mulberry পাতা খাওয়া larva → রেশম সুতোর cocoon → moth), প্রতিটি ধাপে সময়সহ। দ্বিতীয় — রেশম কাপড় তৈরির ধাপ: cocoon বাছাই → সেদ্ধ → সুতো খোলা (৩০০–৯০০ মি) → পাক দেওয়া → বুনন ও রং। দুটো প্রক্রিয়া বর্ণনা করুন; মত নয়।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Two processes: a natural cycle and a manufacturing sequence. প্রাকৃতিক চক্র ও উৎপাদন ধাপ।
- The cycle repeats (egg → moth → egg); the production line is linear (select → weave). চক্র বনাম সরলরৈখিক।
- Include the numbers/times — stage durations and the 300–900 m thread. সময় ও দৈর্ঘ্য উল্লেখ করুন।
Overview to aim for: the silkworm passes through four main stages in a repeating cycle, while turning cocoons into cloth involves several clear manufacturing steps. Describe stages in order using sequence words. ওভারভিউ: রেশমপোকা চারটি প্রধান ধাপে একটি পুনরাবৃত্ত চক্র পার করে, আর cocoon থেকে কাপড় বানাতে কয়েকটি স্পষ্ট ধাপ লাগে। ক্রমানুসারে sequence শব্দ দিয়ে বলুন।
Tips: use the passive (are boiled, is unwound) and sequencers (first, next, after that, finally). Present tense for a general process. passive ও sequencer ব্যবহার করুন; সাধারণ প্রক্রিয়ায় বর্তমান কাল।
Task 2: Follow Local Customs or Welcome Differences?
The prompt (in short): some people believe visitors to other countries should follow local customs and behaviour; others disagree and think the host country should welcome cultural differences. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. A discussion (both views + opinion) essay. প্রশ্ন: কেউ মনে করে বিদেশে গেলে স্থানীয় রীতি মানা উচিত; কেউ বলে আয়োজক দেশের সাংস্কৃতিক ভিন্নতা স্বাগত জানানো উচিত। দুই মত আলোচনা ও নিজের মত।

Visitors should adapt
- Respect shows courtesy and avoids offence. সম্মান ও ভদ্রতা।

Hosts should welcome
- Diversity enriches society. বৈচিত্র্য সমৃদ্ধ করে।
- Tolerance and openness reduce conflict. সহনশীলতা।
- Tourists bring new ideas and money. নতুন ধারণা ও অর্থ।
A balanced answer: visitors should respect key local customs, while hosts should also be open and tolerant — the two attitudes work best together. State your own position clearly. ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ উত্তর: অতিথিরা মূল রীতি সম্মান করুক, আয়োজকরাও উদার-সহনশীল হোক — দুটো একসঙ্গে ভালো। নিজের অবস্থান স্পষ্ট করুন।
