Cambridge IELTS 8, Test 1, Speaking-
Don't memorise. These are ideas and language to practise with — not a script. Speak naturally about your own life.
Two golden habits: Part 1 — Answer + Reason + Example; Part 3 — Point → Explain → Example.
Part 1: Neighbours
Part 1 asks simple, familiar questions (4–5 minutes). The topic is neighbours — how well you know the people next door, how often you see them, what kinds of problems people have with neighbours, and how neighbours can help each other.
Model approach (মডেল পদ্ধতি)
Give a direct answer, then a reason and a small detail. The prompts ask "why/why not", so always add a reason. Keep answers to two or three sentences.
Useful openers: "I know my neighbours quite well because…", "We see each other most days when…", "Good neighbours help by…"
Part 2: Describe a time when you were asked to give your opinion in a questionnaire or survey
You get a cue card, one minute to prepare, then speak for 1–2 minutes. The card asks: what the questionnaire/survey was about, why you were asked to give your opinions, what opinions you gave, and to explain how you felt about giving your opinions.
Planning in 1 minute (নোট কাঠামো)
About what
the topic বিষয়
Why asked
the reason কেন
What you said
opinions মত
How you felt
feelings অনুভূতি
Pick a real survey — about a shop, your college, a product, or public transport. Describe what it covered and the views you gave, then explain how you felt (useful, bored, valued).
Part 3: Asking Questions; Questionnaires in School
Part 3 is a two-way discussion linked to Part 2 (4–5 minutes). The themes are asking questions (what organisations want people's opinions, whether questionnaires are a good way to find them out, why people might refuse) and questionnaires in school (whether schools should ask students about lessons, the advantages, and any disadvantages).
How to develop answers
Use P-E-E: Point, Explain, Example. For "should schools ask students' opinions?", give a point, explain why, then an example. Show both sides and use hedging (it depends on…, generally) for opinion questions.
