How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 9, Test 1, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 9, Test 1, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: An Island Before & After Tourist Development (Maps)
What the task shows: two maps of the same island — one before and one after the construction of tourist facilities. Summarise the main changes and compare the two states. টাস্কে যা আছে: একই দ্বীপের দুটি মানচিত্র — পর্যটন সুবিধা নির্মাণের আগে ও পরে। মূল পরিবর্তন ও তুলনা।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Added: accommodation (huts), a reception, a restaurant, a pier, footpaths and vehicle tracks. থাকার হাট, রিসেপশন, রেস্তোরাঁ, পিয়ার, পথ যোগ হয়েছে।
- Kept: the beach and many trees remain. সৈকত ও গাছ রয়ে গেছে।
- New activities: swimming and sailing are now possible. সাঁতার ও নৌকা যোগ হয়েছে।
Overview to aim for: the once-empty island has been developed into a small tourist resort, with buildings and paths added around the centre and shore, while the beach and natural features are largely preserved. Describe changes by area (west, centre, shore). ওভারভিউ: ফাঁকা দ্বীপটি ছোট পর্যটন রিসোর্টে পরিণত হয়েছে; কেন্দ্র ও তীরে ভবন-পথ যোগ, সৈকত অটুট। এলাকা ধরে বর্ণনা করুন।
Map tips: use the passive for changes (a pier has been built, trees were cleared) and location language (in the centre, to the west, along the shore). No opinions in Task 1. পরিবর্তনে passive ও অবস্থান-ভাষা; Task 1-এ মত নয়।
Task 2: Learning a Foreign Language at Primary School
The prompt (in short): some experts believe it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? An advantages/disadvantages (opinion) essay. প্রশ্ন: শিশুদের বিদেশি ভাষা মাধ্যমিকের বদলে প্রাথমিকে শুরু করা ভালো — সুবিধা কি অসুবিধার চেয়ে বেশি? সুবিধা/অসুবিধা প্রবন্ধ।

Advantages
- Young children pick up languages more naturally. ছোটরা সহজে শেখে।
- Better accent and pronunciation. ভালো উচ্চারণ।
- More years of exposure and practice. বেশি সময় চর্চা।
Disadvantages
- May confuse children still learning their first language. মাতৃভাষায় বিভ্রান্তি।
- Shortage of trained primary language teachers. প্রশিক্ষিত শিক্ষকের অভাব।
- Crowds an already full primary timetable. সময়সূচিতে চাপ।
A strong answer argues the advantages outweigh the disadvantages: early exposure suits young minds and gives more years of practice, and the practical problems (teacher supply, timetabling) can be solved. State your position clearly in the introduction and conclusion. ভালো উত্তর: সুবিধা বেশি — ছোট বয়সে শেখা সহজ ও বেশি চর্চা; ব্যবহারিক সমস্যা সমাধানযোগ্য। মত স্পষ্ট করুন।
