A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 9, Test 3, Writing. This page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 9, Test 3, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Ages of the Populations of Yemen & Italy (Pie Charts)
What the task shows: four pie charts giving the age structure (0–14, 15–59 and 60+ years) of the populations of Yemen and Italy in 2000 and projected for 2050. Summarise the main features and make comparisons. টাস্কে যা আছে: চারটি পাই চার্ট — Yemen ও Italy-র জনসংখ্যার বয়স-কাঠামো (০–১৪, ১৫–৫৯, ৬০+) ২০০০-এ ও ২০৫০-এর অনুমানে। মূল বৈশিষ্ট্য ও তুলনা।
What to notice (যা লক্ষ্য করবেন)
- Yemen has a very young population (about half aged 0–14 in 2000). Yemen তরুণ জনসংখ্যা।
- Italy is much older, with a big and growing 60+ share. Italy বয়স্ক জনসংখ্যা।
- By 2050 both grow older, but Italy's over-60s reach over 40%. ২০৫০-এ দুটিই আরও বয়স্ক।
Overview to aim for: the two countries have very different age structures — Yemen is youthful while Italy is ageing — and both are projected to grow older by 2050, with the working-age and older groups expanding. Chart tips: group by country and by year rather than listing every slice. Use proportion language and quote key percentages (e.g. 50.1%, 42.3%). প্রতিটি স্লাইস নয় — দেশ ও বছর ধরে; অনুপাত-ভাষা ও কিছু শতাংশ দিন।
Task 2: Do Sports Facilities Improve Public Health?
The prompt (in short): some people say the best way to improve public health is to increase the number of sports facilities; others say this would have little effect and that other measures are needed. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. More sports facilities
- Easier access encourages exercise. সহজ সুযোগে ব্যায়াম বাড়ে।
- Cheaper, local options for families. সস্তা স্থানীয় সুযোগ।
- Fights obesity and lifestyle disease. স্থূলতা কমে।
Other measures
- Facilities help only if people use them. ব্যবহার করলেই কাজে লাগে।
- Diet, education and healthcare matter too. খাদ্য, শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা।
- Tackle smoking, pollution and stress. ধূমপান, দূষণ, চাপ।
A balanced answer: more facilities can help, but on their own they do little — a broad approach (health education, better diet, discouraging smoking) is more effective. State your own view clearly. ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ উত্তর: সুবিধা সাহায্য করে, কিন্তু একা যথেষ্ট নয় — বিস্তৃত পদক্ষেপ বেশি কার্যকর। নিজের মত স্পষ্ট করুন।
