Task 1: a bar chart · Task 2: a discussion essay. Write both answers, get an indicative band estimate, then compare your work with three model answers (Band 9, 7 and 5–6) — each explained in Bangla — and grade yourself on the four official criteria. টাস্ক ১: বার চার্ট · টাস্ক ২: আলোচনা রচনা।
How this works — কীভাবে দেবে
- You have 60 minutes: about 20 min on Task 1 (min. 150 words) and 40 min on Task 2 (min. 250 words). Task 2 counts double. টাস্ক ১-এ ~২০ মিনিট, টাস্ক ২-এ ~৪০ মিনিট; টাস্ক ২-এর নম্বর দ্বিগুণ।
- Write your own answer, then press “Estimate my band” for quick feedback. লিখে “Estimate my band” চাপো।
- Important: the estimate is a rough computer guide based on length, structure and vocabulary — it cannot judge meaning, grammar accuracy or relevance. Use the model answers and checklist as your main guide. এই স্কোর আনুমানিক; মডেল উত্তর ও চেকলিস্টই মূল ভরসা।

Band 9 186 words
The bar chart compares the proportion of households that owned four kinds of electronic device — smartphones, laptops, tablets and smart televisions — in one country in 2005 and 2020.
Overall, ownership of every device increased substantially over the fifteen-year period. The most striking change was in smartphone ownership, which grew from a minority of homes to almost every household, while tablets, although still the least common device, showed the fastest relative growth.
In 2005, laptops were the most widely owned device, found in 35% of households, followed by smartphones at 20%. Smart TVs and tablets were rare, present in only 10% and 5% of homes respectively.
By 2020, the picture had changed dramatically. Smartphones had become almost universal, owned by 95% of households, while smart TVs rose sharply to 80%. Laptop ownership doubled to 70%, and tablets, despite starting from the lowest point, increased to 55%. Thus, although tablets remained the least common device in both years, the gap between the four technologies had narrowed considerably by the end of the period.
Band 7 150 words
The bar chart shows the percentage of households that owned four electronic devices (smartphones, laptops, tablets and smart TVs) in one country in 2005 and 2020.
Overall, the ownership of all four devices increased between 2005 and 2020. Smartphones had the biggest increase and became the most common device by the end.
In 2005, laptops were the most popular device and 35% of households had them. Smartphones were owned by 20% of households, smart TVs by 10% and tablets by only 5%.
By 2020, the situation changed a lot. Smartphones were owned by 95% of households, which was the highest. Smart TVs also increased to 80% and laptops rose to 70%. Tablets were still the lowest, but they increased to 55%. So all the devices became much more common, and the difference between them was smaller in 2020 than in 2005.

Band 9 290 words
Opinions differ as to the ideal age at which children should begin formal schooling. While some argue that an early start is beneficial, others insist that children should be older. In my opinion, a slightly later start is preferable, provided that younger children are still supported at home.
Those who favour an early start point to the remarkable speed at which young children learn. Between the ages of three and five, the brain absorbs new information — especially language — with extraordinary ease, so beginning school early may give children a head start in reading, writing and numeracy. In addition, early schooling can be valuable for working parents, as it provides safe, structured care while teaching children to socialise with others.
On the other hand, many educators believe that pushing children into formal lessons too soon can do more harm than good. Very young children learn best through play and exploration, not by sitting still at desks. Forcing them to read and write before they are ready may create stress and even a lasting dislike of school. Countries such as Finland, where children begin formal education at seven, consistently achieve excellent results, which suggests that a later start is no disadvantage.
On balance, I believe children benefit from starting formal school a little later, at around six or seven. Before that age, their time is better spent playing, developing socially and being read to at home. This allows them to mature emotionally, so that when formal learning does begin, they are genuinely ready to enjoy it.
In conclusion, although early schooling has some advantages, I am convinced that a later, play-based start produces happier and ultimately more successful learners.
Band 7 250 words
People have different opinions about the best age for children to start school. Some think children should start when they are very young, while others believe they should start later. I will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, some people think an early start is good. Young children learn very quickly, especially languages, so starting school early can help them with reading and writing. Also, early school is helpful for parents who work, because their children are looked after and they learn to play with other children.
On the other hand, many people think children should start later. They believe that small children learn better by playing, not by sitting in a classroom. If children start formal study too early, they can feel stressed and start to dislike school. For example, in Finland children start school at seven and they get very good results, so an early start is not always necessary.
In my opinion, it is better for children to start school a little later, at about six or seven years old. Before that age, they should play and learn social skills at home. This way, when they start school they are ready and they enjoy learning more.
In conclusion, although starting school early has some benefits, I believe that a later start is better for children, because they are more prepared and they like school more.
Band 5–6 216 words
There are different opinion about the age of starting school. Some people think children must start early and other people think they should start when they are big. I will discuss both and give my opinion.
Some people say early start is good. Because small children learn very fast, specially the language. So if they start early they can read and write early. Also it is good for the parents who is doing job, because the children is safe in the school and they learn to play with other children.
But other people say it is not good to start early. They think small children learn better by playing not by study in the class. If we force them to study early they become stress and they don't like the school. For example in Finland the children start at seven year and they are doing very good in study.
In my opinion I think children should start little late like six or seven year. Before that they should play and learn in the home. Then when they start the school they are ready and they enjoy.
In conclusion both side have some point, but I think late start is better because the children are more ready and they like the school more.
